The funeral chapel consists of three primary spaces: the Columbarium below, the Chapel above, and the Private Viewing Room between. Thin black towers encase vertical circulation and encourage reflection as users progress through the spaces. Through lighting and materiality, the project aids mourners in achieving a state of peace and understanding.

The program concentrates around the most sacred space, the Private Viewing Room, where families say a final good bye to their loved ones. The Private Viewing Room remains a constant source of light as it hovers between the columbarium and the chapel.

NATURAL PROGRESSIONBEACH HOUSEBETHANY BEACH, DESecond Year

The design of the Beach House is inspired by the revolving structure of seashells. The walls fold and wrap to become ceilings and floors, which reach out toward the ocean. The elevated first floor is separate from the shell, but serves as the axis around which the shell rotates. The bedrooms above are arranged within two separate balconies, allowing for optimal views of

the beach.

NOURISHING THE COMMUNITYNATATORIUMWASHINGTON, D.C.Second Year

The natatorium is a semi public pool and spa with both indoor and outdoor pools. Interior grass covers the lobby on the bottom floor, which separates the public pools and private thermal baths. The exposed top floor is an elevated boardwalk which becomes a diving platform to the pool below. Gaps between the planks of the boardwalk allow rain water to nourish the grass below.

LAYERED INFORMATIONPAVILLIONSecond Year

The wall panels slide in between steel supports, allowing the pavillion to be easily dismantled and reassembled anywhere.

The overlapping roofs provide partial shelter and walls become a collageof information for visitors.

The design encourages movement through the project in order to support a maximum flow of people.
