Consolidation of Camps: As most of you
know, the Gov. William Dennison Camp l2S
consolidated with this Camp in January. We have
acquired 12 new Members from Camp l2S so along
with all the Camp 108 Members I want to thank and
welcome them to Camp 109. They are listed later
within this newsletter. One of the reasons that Camp12S disbanded was because of low or no attendance at
Meetings. Lets hope that this Camp will always keep
its attendance up and one way to do that is to have
INTER£&-rINGPrograms. It is up to the WHOLECamp
to come up with Programs that will get the
Membership out to the Meetings. There are Members
in this Camp that are not in the SVR and so their
enjoyment comes from getting together at meetings
and talking about the Civil War. Not going to
Reenactments and Living History Events. Also wehope that each Member will be a recruiter and help
keep this Membership up so that we may have larger
attendance at Meetings. Another reason that Camp12S went down is because no one wanted to be an
Officer in the Camp. We need to push everyone to
volunteer to do some kind of work in the Camp. It
could be Grave Registration, Memorial Registration,
Recruiting at events, contacting speakers to giveInteresting Programs., serving on a committee, ordering
and setting new Stones at Civil War Veteran's Graves.
sites, or something that will keep the Members andyourself interested in the Civil War. Help raise money
for the restoration of the GAR Hall and the Camp.
Everyone should care what happens in this Camp. I
want to wish everyone a happy, and healthy NewYear.
Sec./Treas.M.Wayne LoweryNew Members:We would like to Thank and welcome all the new
Members joining our Camp. The first Member is a newMember in the SUV, Thomas H.Romine, whose CW
Veteran is GGGrandfather Isaiah Clark, a Musician in
the 18th OVLCo. C.,Brother Romine has informed me
that he will volunteer to play the Fife and Drums if and
when we need him. The following twelve Members
are transfering from Camp l2S into our Camp:
Michael Bash. George Foltz, Earl Funk, Carl Gaffin,
Donald Grant, Jeremy Grant, Michaell<1ine, Robert
l<1ine,Wayne McElfresh. Robert (Doc) Richmond., Jobie
Siemer, and Russell Tippett. We are glad they are
staying in the SUV and we give them a rousing
welcome to John S. Townsend Camp 109. With this
Consolidation lets hope that Camp 108 win keep
growing and keep doing the things that the SUVwas
organized for, and that was to be a Patriotic and
Educational Organization to carry out the traditions ofthe GAR. To remember our Civil War Veterans and to
help find and record their graves.
I want to thank everyone that was involved in getting
the Consolidation of the Camps completed. It got a
little rough at the end but everything turned out right.
