Els Boghart
Declan Kelly is a Drogheda-based painter and image making artist. He studied in Fine Art in
the West of Ireland in the early 2000s, and has since then travelled extensively in support of his
research and image making. Declan Kelly’s work is primarily about our connection to this world,
the realities that lie beneath the surface and the alternative universes that converge upon it.
His art looks to an existential reference of the modern world and our place in it.
Originally from Belgium, Els Borghart has lived in Ireland on a full time basis since 2008. She
obtained a Masters in Fine Art and completed a post- Masters in Cultural & Art Management.
She has been working as an artist on a professional level since 2006, regularly exhibiting
both in Belgium and in Ireland. Over the years, Els has received awards by Create Louth, Drogheda Borough Council and the Arts
Council. In preparation for this exhibition, she has completed a six week residency. Els’ art is primarily two dimensional, based in drawing
and painting. It aims to explore the complexity of the world around her in all its perspectives,
seen and unseen. Her art explores the idea of revelation and develops through subjects
observed in her ever changing habitat..
Laura Gramzow
Leo de Freyne
Laura Gramzow’s work delves into the space between chaos and coherence. She has work in private collections in America, Italy, Greece
and Ireland. Laura is a founding member of The Print Point, print studio in Drogheda. She received her Honours BFA from The Corcoran College of Art and Design, Washington D.C. She has also studied at Pyramid Atlantic, Maryland, Studio
Art Centres International, Florence and The Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork. She
was born in Fort Campbell Kentucky.
Born in Dublin 1952 and a graduate in Philosophy from University College Dublin. Having
lived and worked abroad for many years, he returned to Ireland in 2006. He has had solo
shows in Spain and Oman, and since returning to Ireland he has participated in various group shows in Dublin and Drogheda. Leo’s intent in
these paintings is to create aesthetically-pleasing images in the tradition of gesturalism which
can be traced back to the post-impressionists’ response to the natural world. By ‘gesturalism’
he means the genre of painting in which the lines and colours indicate the physical gestures used
to create them. This is a manner of painting which endeavours to display and communicate feeling.
Unified
During the month that celebrates Drogheda’s 600th anniversary as a unified town, Droichead Arts Centre has curated this exhibition of work by four professional artists living in Drogheda.
Throughout the run of the exhibition there will be guest talks and artist workshops.
