1- CHAPTER INTRODUCTION &OUTLINE
This introduction chapter of “An overview of
Union and Labor Laws” gives the history of
labor union revolution from 1770 till 2008 in
United State of America (USA).

Labor union started with slaves, indentured workers, escape, revolts then combined and join hands with coal miners, steelworkers, women’s alliance, meatpacking workers, textile workers and automobile workers.

2- LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE CHAPTER
Labor unions and labor laws are made after a long and hard times face by workers, firms, organization and society. USA learned lessons from its blood shad and violence history of labor. Now it’s our turn to learn lessons from the experience of other nations and moves towards the right direction and avoid the time like
“The days of depression 1930”.
Union and Labor law should not be taken as granted or just a non-effective ordinary law and rules. It should be strictly followed. It’s an outcome of many centuries and hard experiences.
3- WHAT IS LABOR UNION?
Dictionary definition:“An organization of workers formed to promote collective bargaining with employers over wages, hours, fringe benefits, job security, and working conditions”.
3- WHAT IS LABOR UNION? _ CONTINUE
Labor union is association of labor which
worked for the rights of labor. In USA it
emerges in March 1770 and known as
Boston Massacre and helped USA to get
independence from Britain and passed
through many critical times of blood shad,
sticks, penalties and even rules like
slavery.
4- WHY IS LABOR UNION REQUIRED?
Labor union is required to represent its
members in power structure and worked
for collective bargaining with an employer
on behalf of their members.
5- WHAT BENEFIT CAN THE LABOR UNION GIVE
TO THE SOCIETY?
Labor unions protect the rights and improve
the pay structure according to the economic
conditions of society, firms or organization
and worked towards the prosperity of the
country.
6- WHAT HARM CAN THE LABOR UNION DO TO
THE FIRM/ ORGANIZATION / SOCIETY?
a) Its can create conflicts and start
grouping.. like in 1875 gangster-style
conflict between Pennsylvania coal
miners and their employers. Ended with
the arrests and hanging of the leaders.
6- WHAT HARM CAN THE LABOR UNION DO TO
THE FIRM/ ORGANIZATION / SOCIETY?
b) Labor can go on strike and cause the loss of business, lives and economic benefits associated with it…. like it was happened in1893, labor strike paralyze the U.S rail system and state militiamen killed more than 50 strikers.
7- CONCLUSION
Employer and employees rights should be balanced and should have participation especially matters related to work, working conditions and pay.
Union and Labor law should not be taken as granted or just as non-effective ordinary law and rules. It should be strictly followed. It’s an outcome of many centuries and hard experiences.
