She teaches second grade and has inspired many young minds. Mrs. Dickens talks highly of her years at UES, especially when it was an international school and is famous for her Doll Day! o Ann Holland is our literacy coach, but prior to becoming a coach spent many years doing literacy interventions and as a classroom teacher. Ann’s ability to help teachers and students has been a gift to RSU #40 for twentyseven years. o UES would also like to honor our whole district librarian, Nina Ruit for fourteen years of service in RSU #40. Any child having their 5th birthday on or before October 15th 2011 is eligible to enter Kindergarten in the fall. Please call Miller School at 832-2103 or stop by the office to register your child.

Principal’s Pride

Our Retireeso Charlyn  Dickens  has  been  a  teacher  in  RSU  #40  for  39  years.  

She  teaches  second  grade  and  has  inspired  many  young  minds.  Mrs.  Dickens  talks  highly  of  her  years  at  UES,  especially  when  it  

was  an  international  school  and  is  famous  for  her  Doll  Day!

At UES we recognize those students who have exhibited excellent lunchroom behavior. Each week choose 12 students who receive a golden ticket. Those students will get to sit at a special royalty table on Tuesday in the cafeteria. Congratulations to the following students for being chosen to be at the royalty table this week!

The town of Union will be having Founders Day on Saturday, July 16th. The parade will start at 10:00 am and the children’s area will be open from 10-2 pm. Dunk tank, bounce house and arts and crafts, horse and wagon rides and face painting will all be sponsored by the UES PTC. A few more volunteers are needed. Summer Fun Raffle

Union Elementary School’s PTC is holding a Summer Fun Raffle to benefit the PTC. The

raffle items are on display in the lobby here at the school. Tickets are on sale in the office for $.25 each or 5 for $1.00.

The drawing will be held on Monday, June 13th. Good luck everyone!!

Field Day 2016Field Day will be held here @ UES rain or shine on Tuesday, June 14th. We are looking for parent volunteers to run activities that day. Parents are also welcome to come and help for the day with his/her child’s class as they rotate stations. Parents must be approved volunteers to help out. Please contact Allison in the office ASAP to sign up to help!! All visitors please report to the office when you arrive. The activities will begin at approximately 9:00 and will continue throughout the day. We will have a break for lunch. If you would like a lunch that day, please order it by Monday, June 13th. Our lunch that day is cheese pizza. Adult lunches are $4.00 or you can bring your own!

Final Awards AssemblyParents and family members are invited to attend the 3rd trimester awards assembly on Wednesday, June 15th @ 9:00 AM. The awards that will be presented at that time will be Effort, Citizenship, Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies, Writer, Scholar, MVEA award 6th grade, Art Awards, P.E. Awards, District III Chorus, and K-2 and 3-6 General Music Awards. We will also be recognizing the volunteers who have helped out this year. The 6th graders who will be moving on to the middle school next year will be recognized at the end of the assembly.

WALDOBORO REC OFFERS DISCOUNT WATER PARK PASSES

The Waldoboro Recreation Department has received its summer supply of discount passes to Funtown/Splashtown USA in Saco and Water Country in Portsmouth, NH.

Funtown/Splashtown "Big Combo" day passes for those 48" inches and taller are available for $28.00 each, a savings of $9.00!

Water Country single day passes for those 48" inches and taller are available for $33.00 each, a savings of $6.99!

All sales are final. There are no refunds or exchanges. Tickets may be purchased via check or cash at the Waldoboro Town Office located at 1600 Atlantic Highway in Waldoboro. Discount tickets for the 2016 season are available through Labor Day weekend. Call the Recreation Department at 832-5369 for more information.

Swim Lessons at Beaver Lodge

Swim lessons at Beaver Lodge start on July 5 every Tuesday and Thursday, July 5, 7, 12, 14, 18 (Mon.), 21.

Cost- $36.00 for six lessons for members of Beaver Lodge who are not Union residents. $16.00 for six lessons for residents of Union (supplemented by Union Rec)

Lesson level schedule (This will depend on how many young children, level 1 and 2, sign up)

Level 4-8:30, Level 3- 9:05, Level 3- 9:40, Level 2- 10:15 Level 2- 10:50, Level 1- 11:25 and if needed an additional Level 1- 12:00

It has come to the attention of RSU 40 School Health Services that there is a law pending that would require all students entering the seventh grade in the 2016 school year to have one dose of Tdap after age 6. Although this is not currently the law, we would like to encourage parents to consider consulting with their child’s physician regarding this
