Background Firstly, please note that Origo advises the use of Outlook 2007, 2010, 2013 or 2016 or Windows Live
Mail (all 32bit versions) as full featured email clients that allow professional management of email
communications. If you already use one of these, we can provide a fully integrated desktop plug-in
for full and easy use of email encryption and decryption.
If for any reason you cannot use the Outlook plug-in, you can still read and manage your email
securely via your Internet browser. While the browser based method cannot provide the full
functionality available via dedicated installed software. Our Unipass Securemail browser based
service allows you to read and write secure emails.
What is Unipass Securemail? Unipass Securemail is a browser based means of sending and opening encrypted emails. It is
available to financial advisers and those working within the financial services and users within the
Unipass community.
A version of the software is also freely available to consumers, including policy holders and the
clients of financial advisers. As Unipass is not relevant to this audience, support for these categories
is provided directly by the global security firm, Trend Micro.
Technical requirements The minimal technical requirements for using Unipass Securemail are a recent version of one of the
following browsers:
Supported Browsers Microsoft Internet Explorer: 10 onwards
Microsoft Edge
Mozilla Firefox (latest 2 versions)
Chrome (latest 2 versions)

Reading Your Secure Email Using Zero Download with a Unipass
Identity
If you wish to use the Unipass Securemail Zero Download service in conjunction with a Unipass
Identity before you open the encrypted message please apply for a Unipass Identity (please see the
Unipass Securemail Zero Download Registration Guide for further details).
When you receive an encrypted email in your web based email client, open the attached file
‘Encrypted message.htm’ by simply clicking on it.
This will open another window where you should then click on the ‘Open my email’ button.
You will then be asked to select your email address from a dropdown list:

Once the attachment is open, and you have selected the email address you want to register with you
will need to select the relevant option.
Note: Financial advisers and other financial services users in the Unipass community should select ‘I
am a Financial Adviser/Unipass user. Policy holders and non-financial services users should select ‘I
am a policy holder or consumer’. Then select Register.
This will then launch a web page asking you to authenticate either using a valid Unipass certificate or
using your Unipass Username / Password / PIN (UPP).
Non-UK, Trustee and Other organisation types will use be able to use the UPP credential as they are
not allowed to hold Unipass certificates.
The encrypted message is opened as soon as your credentials are verified

Once you have logged in successful your decrypted message will then appear as shown below:
You can now click on ‘Reply’, ‘Reply all’ or ‘Forward’ to reply to, or forward, this email securely.

Creating a New Secure Email Using Unipass Securemail with a Unipass
Identity
Unipass Securemail is not a webmail service – your secure emails are delivered to your existing
Inbox, not stored elsewhere in a separate ‘secure email inbox’.
So, to create a new secure email you’ll need to use a secure email you’ve already received to start
the process, and follow the instructions below.
1. Choose a secure email you have already received and open it up as described above.
2. Once you have decrypted it, click the ‘Forward’ button.
3. You now have a template you can use to compose a new email. Simply delete the email
content and subject line to start afresh.

4. If you want to have a copy of the email you send, ensure the ‘Send me a copy of this
message’ tick box is completed.
5. Once you have finished composing your message, simply click ‘Send’ and your email will
be sent securely.

Reading an encrypted email is straightforward – you just open the email in your Inbox as normal and
double click on the encrypted message attachment ‘Encrypted_messge.htm’.
You’ll then see a slip like the one below (the sender may have included different branding) – please
click on ‘Open my email’:
Next, you will have to select your email address from the drop down list and click on Continue.
If it is the first time you have opened a secure email you will need to complete the registration
process for the selected email address in order to be able to decrypt and send encrypted emails.

Options available are for:-
• Financial advisers and other financial services users in the financial community.
or
• Policy holders/consumers and non-financial services users.
Click on the appropriate statement and click on ‘register’ to be taken to the online application page.
If you’ve previously registered for Unipass Securemail then you will be prompted to ‘Validate’ your
email by submitting your password or if a Unipass user your credentials.
Once you have logged in successful your decrypted message will then appear as shown below:
