DEMOCRACY

“A high percentage of organizations develop a military rationale, whereby only a small number people make all the decisions. There is little wonder, then, that people aren’t keen to get out of bed and come to work on a Monday morning.” – R. Semler.

PROFIT SHARING

“The best way to invest corporate profits is to give them to the employees.” – R. Semler.

INFORMATION

“If you look at any kind of organization and you think, ‘what are the foremost tools of power?’ You will find that it is information.” – R. Semler.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

An organizational structure defines how activities such as task allocation, coordination and supervision are directed towards the achievement of organizational aims. It can also be considered as viewing glass or perspective through which individuals see their organization and its environment.

Organizational structure is a system used to define a hierarchy within an organization. It identifies each job, its function and where it reports to within the organization.

STORY ABOUT SEMCO CULTURE

The wife of one Semco employee came to meet the human resource person one fine day. The reasons for her visit was to ask the HR person as to what they have done to her husband, he no longer shouted on her and their kids and asked everyone what they wanted to do on the weekend. In short from being grumpy and autocratic he had become more caring and affectionate to everyone. That’s what Semco culture does to its employees.
