People around the world have their own ways of greeting each other. Some of the ways are very similar to us while others seem rather strange.
Do you know any ways of greeting around the world?
Shaking hands
Britain, China…
In France, it is the custom to shake hands with people in the office every morning.
Holland
kissing each other on one cheek and then the other
The USA
shaking hands with each other
Japan bowing to each other
Match the country / area with its form of greeting.

Look at the four pictures on Page 33 and answer the following questions.
Are these forms of greeting the same as the forms used in China?
Has anyone used one of these forms of greeting with you? If so, what would you do in return?
If you met people from the Middle East without knowing anything about their forms of greeting, how would you react?
If you are not familiar with greetings from other countries, what might happen?
