UNIT 4: NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION

INTERPRETING NONVERBAL MESSAGES

D Don’t just look, but see.

Tips for reading the true meaning of nonverbal communication:

Consider the person’s normal physical and verbal behavior patterns, and be alert for variations from that norm.

3Remember that one signal alone means nothing; what you’re looking for are clusters of signals.

When trying to interpret nonverbal communication, why is it important to look for a cluster of signals, not just one?

In what ways could using just one signal lead to misinterpretation or confusion?
