•Using the outline created in the Unit 6 Discussion Board, your task is to write a one-sided position paper to defend your thesis.

•The project should be at least 5 pages long.

Use sources to

Directly Quoting

This refers to using a source without altering it in any way; the work is used word for word. All directly quoted passages must be enclosed in quotation marks.

Paraphrasing

You can also use a source by placing it in your own words. Paraphrasing simplifies or restates the main ideas of an author and is generally the same length as the original.

Summarizing

Like paraphrasing, you can summarize a source by placing it in your own words. The difference is that it is a shortened version of the original; the author’s main ideas are abbreviated for the sake of length.

Model signal phrases:

In the words of Jones (2001), “….”

Smith and Wells argued that, “…”

In the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, O’Deane states that gangs are now

using the internet and social media to communicate (2011).
