TornadoesTornadoes have o� en been popular weather phenomenons in stories. It was a tornado that dropped Dorothy into Oz in the Wizard of Oz. They are formed when warm, humid air collides with colder, dry air. When the cold air passes over the warm air, it normally causes a thunderstorm. About one in a thousand of these storms becomes a supercell storm and a fi � h of these will create a tornado.

Onthe18thofMay1929,theTri-StateTornadorippedthroughMissouri,IllinoisandIndiana.ItremainstothisdaythemostdevastatingtornadotohittheUnitedStatesofAmerica.
Thetrailofdestructionwentonfor219milesandle�thousandsofpeoplewithouthomes.2,027peoplewereinjuredand695peoplelosttheirlives.Itlastedforaround3.5hoursintotal.
ThemostdeadlytornadorecordedanywhereintheworldwasinBangladeshonthe26thofApril,1989.Itkillednearly1,300people.
