Why is it important for me to learn how to use PowerPoint?

PowerPoint is an excellent way to present information in an electronic slide show. You can combine text with graphics, animation, special effects, and sound to create slide shows that are clear, sophisticated, and interesting.

When will I use PowerPoint?

While you are in school, you can use PowerPoint to organize information and impress your teachers and classmates when you are assigned a presentation.

As you move along a career path, PowerPoint is an excellent tool for you to use for in higher education, to organize information for meetings, and to create proposals.

Why It Matters

11

Create a Presentation

Can you think of any other contexts where you can use PowerPoint to organize information and engage your audience?

Page 23: Unit Presentations Unit Tech Talk: Technology in Careers Using Technology at Work (pg. 305–306) Use Technology to Find a Job (pg. 307) Choose a Career.

UnitPresentations

Use slides to provide a visual outline of what you will say. This will help focus the audience on your key ideas.

Use themes to give a unified look to your presentation.

If you change the font color of the title on one slide, you will want to make sure you do that to all of your slides. Use the Slide Master view to make changes on all slides of the presentation at one time.

In this project, you will learn guidelines to help you present your information clearly and to create a visually appealing slide show.

Why should I learn how to enhance a presentation?

Think of something you really enjoy. It could be shopping, skateboarding, reading, eating ice cream, etc.

What would happen if you did that activity all of the time?

When you do something too much, or eat too much of something, that thing is no longer pleasant. In fact, you might wind up disliking the thing if you do it too much.

Do you think you should try to use all of the tools and features PowerPoint offers in one slide show? Why or why not?

PowerPoint has some fascinating features that will allow you to create impressive and professional presentations.

However, it is possible to include too much of a good thing and distract your audience from the information you intend to give them.

Learning how to use these features will help you make your presentations easier to follow and understand for your audience. As a result, you will leave your audience with a positive impression.
