Week 1/4Improvement Priority 1: Ball Retention Improvement Priority 2: FlexibilityDate: 03/02/15 Date: 04/02/15

Time: Afternoon Time: Afternoon

Venue: Worthing Leisure centre (astro) Venue: Worthing College Gym

Equipment: 4 cones, football, opponent Equipment: Assistant

Weather: raining Weather: N/A (indoors)

Coaches Review: Oscar performed well for this drill putting maximum effort into the drill. This meant however he fatigued before the 10 minutes had finished and less work rate was put in

Coaches Review: Oscar completed all the stretches successfully and showed good technique

Athlete Feedback / Questions:

Oscar questioned why the grid time was so long as he felt it was hard for him to keep 100% effort in for the 10 minutes

Athlete Feedback / Questions:

Only thing Oscar questioned is why there was a minute break in between each set of stretches. Therefore I told him how when stretching rest periods are needed to prevent over elasticity of the muscle fibres.

Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe:

Progress is expected as from watching his technique he successfully kept shielding the ball from his opponent and made it harder for his opponent to tackle him.

Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe:

Progress is expected as everything went to plan this week.

Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe:

Only aspect that will be applied in week 2 is that the opponent in the grid will be changed to a stronger player. Therefore this stays appropriate.

Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe:

Next session should stay the same as there was no problems. Next week includes no overload or progression so it is very appropriate week of training. If anything next week should be made harder for the athlete. However I will e sticking to the plan for week 2.

Time: Afternoon Time: Afternoon

Venue: Worthing leisure centre (astro) Venue: Worthing college gym

Equipment: 4 cones, football. opponent Equipment: Assistant

Weather: Overcast Weather: n/a indoors

Coaches Review: Oscar performed the exercise well however struggled more this time round due to the training being against a stronger defender.

Coaches Review: Oscar seemed to lack concentration as he is doing the same training again this week as it is only week 2. after me explaining to hi m why the training has not been made progressive this week he seemed to gain focus again.

Athlete Feedback / Questions:

Once again he questioned why the drill was 10 minutes long Athlete Feedback / Questions:

Only thing Oscar questioned is why there was a minute break in between each set of stretches. Therefore I told him how when stretching rest periods are needed to prevent over elasticity of the muscle fibres.

Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe:

Progress is going to plan from watching Oscars technique and how he doesn't know his opponent so much of the ball anymore and seems stronger ion the ball already.

Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe:

No progress as of yet has been made but this could be due to the fact it is only week 2 and the training hasn’t been made harder yet nor progressive.

Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe:

The next session is appropriate and this is to make the grid smaller by 1m x 1m which is an element of progression and adds a difficulty factor to the training.

Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe:

More stretches are planned to be done in each set this week and this is so that the muscle fibres will be worked harder in order to keep testing them. Without increasing the difficulty each week progress would be hard to be made

Weather: Overcast Weather: n/a indoors

Coaches Review: Oscar was very fresh for this session as college had no game this week of which he was involved in. due to this he was very keen and couldn’t wait to have a go at the improved drill.

Coaches Review: As I said for yesterdays training Oscar was very fresh this week therefore was eager to start his stretches for the week. He seemed happy that I increased the amount of stretches he did as he felt it was a bit easy last week.

Athlete Feedback / Questions:

Only question Oscar asked was whether he could have a water break half way through the 10 minutes as he felt it was more intense in the smaller grid.

Athlete Feedback / Questions:

No questions were asked by Oscar but he gave positive feedback on how he felt he benefitted from the training.

Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe:

Progress should be made this week as Oscar put maximum effort and intensity into the session.

Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe:

Progress is more likely to appear after this session as the subject felt he benefitted.

Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe:

The grid is set to be another 1 metre squared smaller this week which will go ahead.

Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe:

This week the stretches will happen 3 times a day rather than 2. this will go ahead and should further improve flexibility

Coaches Review: He adapted well to the grid getting even smaller and seemed to want to put maximum effort in before he was retested.

Coaches Review: Once again he put maximum effort in due to knowing he was being retested at the end of the week.

Athlete Feedback / Questions:

Oscar said he enjoyed the challenge this week and feels he has improved so far during the training plan.

• In a game situation every time they are on the ball I will keep a record of how many times they retain the ball against how many times they lose it. This will be expressed as a percentage.

Describe whether the tests show that progress is being made as planned?

• Firstly ball retention went up from a best score of 50% to 60%. This shows that progression as his score has gone from average to above average. This shows that the training plan is going to schedule and will stay the same as I have already planned.

• Secondly the flexibility has gone from 9.9 to 10.2 which shows a steady increase. Although this score is still only average it shows that there is improvement being made and the week 5-8 training will stay the same.

Page 9: Unit27task3week1 4

Does the mid point review show that weeks 5-8 need to be adapted?

Describe How you will adapt your sessions?• The midpoint shows that there is a steady increase in both the

required areas and my training plan has already been made to keep this increase happening therefore I will not be changing or altering it. Also after discussing this with the athlete Oscar agreed that the training plan should stay the same as he thought it was challenging him enough and improving his overall game.

Similarities and differences between previous task and week 1-4

Similarities Although both his ball retention and flexibility have both improved there is something that has stayed the same and this is API. This is the athletes perceived level of importance and therefore hasn’t changed as the athlete still believes this trait to be of the same importance as it is. Throughout the 4 weeks Oscars enthusiasm and want to improve his traits stayed the same.DifferencesThere is a number of differences and the first is that both me and his coach Dave have both improved his flexibility to a score of 6. his ball retention I have improved to a 7 but Dave has kept it at a 7. on the athletes self assessment he improved both scores from a 5 to a 6. The fact that a lot of these scores have gone up shows the benefits of the training plan to Oscar as an individual. The fact that his coach Dave also noticed this improvement shows it is giving him better opportunities also such as a better chance of getting into the college team regularly. As his self assessment has gone up for both traits this also shows him to be more confident in his own ability and that he feels he is benefitted from the training plan and becoming a better all round player.
