The Regional District A-5 met last May 4, 2019 at the Starbucks Coffee, Metrowalk, Meralco Ave., Ortigas Center, Pasig City to talk about the updates of the incoming projects of the district namely the Balangkasan on Earthquake Preparedness of educational institutions and the Friendly designed Breastfeeding model center which will include

UAP Regional District A-5 Council met last May 8, 2019 at the UAP National Headquarters to follow-up coordination for the said event with title: on “Where Do Architects Stand?: Reality Check and Insights on Campus Planning towards Earthquake Disaster Preparedness”. The event will be held at the Far Eastern University facilities with guest speakers from UAP, MMDA, Office of the Civil Defense, DepEd, UAP Emergency Architects and DOST. Objective of the Activity Meeting on the Proposed Adopt-a-Barangay Friendly Breastfeeding Station in Mandaluyong City.

Held last May 16, 2019, the UAP Regional District A-

5 headed by Ar. Maria Carmen Yatco together with

Incoming District Director Ar. Reginald Yaneza and

San Juan-Pinaglabanan Chapter President Ar.

Robbie Santos met with Councilor Jesse Cruz and

Captains and several Kagawad from 2 barangays.

The purpose of the meeting is to properly introduce

what will be the Proposed Project of the district that

can benefit a barangay through “Adopt-a-Barangay

Friendly Breastfeeding Station”. The district is being

given two barangays as initial beneficiary of the pilot

project. The meeting was held at the Office of

Councilor Jesse Cruz in Mandaluyong City Hall.

announcement on the upcoming District event on Balangkasan while Ar. Yaneza was introduced to the chapter as the incoming district director for FY 2019-2020.

UAP RDA5 meets up with the LGU heads of chosen model barangays Old Zaniga & Hulo, in Mandaluyong City, and does ocular inspection of their existing breast-feeding stations.

We met with Brgy. Old Zaniga rep Greg Samson and Kap Alex Lacson, and Brgy. Hulo rep Jack Mende & Kap Bernard Maglaque.

This is in line with UAP RDA5's Adopt-a-Brgy. initiative to create models for its upcoming community-based breast-feeding station project

The UAP Regional District A-5 in cooperation with the UAP Balangkasan, Far Eastern University, UAP Emergency Architects and the participation of UAP Regional District A-3 and UAP Regional District A-4 with the support of UAP Secretary General Ar. Ronnie Yumang held its Balangkasan on “Where Do Architects Stand?: Reality Check and Insights on Campus Planning towards Earthquake Disaster Preparedness” last May 22, 2019 at the Far Eastern University in Manila. This was a whole-day gathering of architects, students, school leaders, government stakeholders (PHIVOLCS, DepEd, Office of Civil Defense, MMDA) and experts that methodically thresh out blank spots and gray areas in earthquake preparedness among schools and universities. UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter Ar. Richard Pamplena was in charge of the Registration and certifications. The program started with Opening Ceremonies at 8:30am with Ar. Catherine Garcia as the Master of Ceremony. Regional

District A-5 Ar. Maria Carmen Yatco made a welcoming remark, message from the UAP Commission on Education Executive Director Ar. Jonathan Manalad, message from the UAP Area-A Vice President Ar. Rosario Roxas, Secretary General Ar. Ronnie Yumang on Inspirational Message and UAP Committee on Balangkasan Chairman Ar. Sylvester Shaun Seño introduced Balangkasan background. Rizal-Taytay Chapter President Ar. Jaime Salazar introduced each guest speaker for the respective topic seminars as follows:

1. Rachelle Anne Miranda – Training Officer / Capacity Building and Training Services (Office of the Civil Defense/OCD). Topic: “The Strategic Role of the Office of Civil Defense in Minimizing Disaster Risk: How Architects can help?”

2. Ronilda Co - Director IV, Disaster Risk and Reduction Services (DRRMS) (Department of Education/DepEd). Topic: “What Measures were done by public schools to address earthquake preparedness and response?”

3. Jose A. Miranda, UAP Chair, UAP Emergency Architects FY1819. Topic: “Basic Earthquake Resiliency Guidelines/Insights in Building and Site Planning (Lessons applied in ATS)”

4. Michael C. Salalima, Chief of Staff and DRRM, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) “A “How Metro Manila prepares for the Big One: Challenges and Opportunities for Architects and Planners”

5. Ishmael C. Narag Officer-In-Charge, Seismological and Earthquake Prediction Division (SOEPD), Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Topic: “A Quick Primer on Earthquake and Geological Hazards”

UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter (SJMC) President Ar. Richard R. Pamplena joined the UAP Regional District A-5 (RDA5) in its support to the nationwide program Brigada Eskwela ’19 last May 28, 2018. Led by SJMC pride and RDA5 Director Ar. Maria Carmen Yatco, with assistance of City Councilor Atty. Jesse Cruz, the council donated paints to the Highway Hills Integrated School from the Davies Paints. The donation was being received by Mrs. Emma Arrubio in behalf of the said school. The other council members present were San Juan-Pinaglabanan Chapter Pres. Ar. Robbie Santos, Marikina Valley Chapter Pres. Ar. Lorie Villame, and Incoming District Director Ar. Regnald Yaneza.

They discussed on the possible partnership between the UAP Regional District A-5, UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter and San Juan-Pinaglabanan Chapter and the Cities of Mandaluyong and San Juan on Community Service

Relation projects.

Atty. Jesse stressed on supporting the UAP in its advocacy to promote the architecture profession by upholding and implementing RA 9266 specifically on the issuance of Architectural Permits.

Held at the UAP National Headquarters, the UAP Regional District A-5 headed by its District Director Ar. Maria Carmen Sales-Yatco inks a Mutual of Understanding with Arugaan Organization headed by Ms. Ines Avelana Fernandez on the Proposed Project on creating a Mother-Baby-Child Friendly Breastfeeding Station. The project's goal is to support a program to create a sustainable mother-baby-child friendly environment within the community, with the following objectives:

1. Design User friendly breastfeeding chair and bed 2. Create model-based lactation station 3. Healthy Space with Functional and suitable aesthetics 4. Eco-social sustainable breastfeeding station 5. Emergency-breastfeeding friendly tent
