Prayer of Confession
Gracious and loving God
thank you for creating us
and for welcoming us into your Spirit this day
We acknowledge that we are not perfect
and we often make bad decisions
We are sorry that we do not always worship you as we should
Sometimes we forget to pray and
sometimes we donrsquot follow your teachings in our lives
We have been unwilling to accept the divine flame of your love
We have pushed you away out of fear of what others may think
Forgive us all our sins and help us see your light
Enable us to speak the language of your love
to focus on you
and to follow your path
We humbly pray in the name of Jesus Christ Amen

New Testament Reading Acts 21-21
Cat Rutledge (900) Dave Jirele (1100)
When the day of Pentecost had come they were all together in one place And suddenly
from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind and it filled the entire house
where they were sitting Divided tongues as of fire appeared among them and a tongue
rested on each of them All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in
other languages as the Spirit gave them ability
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem And at this
sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered because each one heard them speaking in the
native language of each Amazed and astonished they asked ldquoAre not all these who are speak-
ing Galileans And how is it that we hear each of us in our own native language Parthians
Medes Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia Judea and Cappadocia Pontus and Asia
Phrygia and Pamphylia Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene and visitors from
Rome both Jews and proselytes Cretans and Arabsmdashin our own languages we hear them
speaking about Godrsquos deeds of powerrdquo All were amazed and perplexed saying to one another
ldquoWhat does this meanrdquo But others sneered and said ldquoThey are filled with new winerdquo
But Peter standing with the eleven raised his voice and addressed them ldquoMen of Judea and
all who live in Jerusalem let this be known to you and listen to what I say Indeed these are
not drunk as you suppose for it is only nine orsquoclock in the morning No this is what was
spoken through the prophet Joel
lsquoIn the last days it will be God declares
that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy
and your young men shall see visions
and your old men shall dream dreams
Even upon my slaves both men and women
in those days I will pour out my Spirit and they shall prophesy
And I will show portents in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below blood and fire and smoky mist
The sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the Lordrsquos great and glorious day
Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be savedrsquo

Affirmation of Faith
We believe in God the Holy Trinity
in our Father who created heaven and earth
and whose love and mercy is in
abundance for all
We believe in Jesus Christ Son of God
who was crucified and died for our sins
and who was raised to save us
We believe in the Holy Spirit
whose presence is everlasting
and who reveals Godrsquos presence every day
We believe that we should devote ourselves to God
because the Holy Trinity shows us eternal love and grace
and offers forgiveness of our sins
We follow in the footsteps of Christ and
spread the word of our Lord Amen

Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
