1. INTRODUCTION

The Journal of Engineering, Research and Development I2+D, created in 2005, is a biannual publication of the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia, Sogamoso Campus. It is a publication mainly concerned with academic and research work related to engineering and technology conducted by regional, national and foreign researchers. Engineering, Research and Development is aimed at the academic and research community, both public and private, of regional, national or international institutions, i.e., researchers, research groups, research incubators, professors, students, and faculty board of engineering and others interested in topics related to the different areas of Engineering.

Notice that these guidelines are written in a way that resembles the actual outline of the articles submitted for publication.

2. Article Submission

The paper submission guidelines for I2+D have been endorsed by the Editorial Board, made up by professors from different engineering programs appointed by the curriculum committee of each School and ratified by the Faculty Board of the campus.

Articles must be sent through the OJS journal platform via the link www.uptc.edu.co/enlaces/ringinvedesa or by the email of the journal [email protected]. Submissions are accepted year-round, calls with specific dates will be only opened for special issues,

This space is aimed at crediting institutions and financial institutions that have supported the project

with particular subjects, approved by the Editorial Board of the journal I2+D.

The body of the article should be written according to the instructions or author guidelines, described in the guidelines for submission of articles provided by the journal, which can be read and downloaded from the Open Journal System (OJS) platform of the journal or request it by email to [email protected].

Once the articles are evaluated and approved by external peers reviewers, they become part of the bank of publishable articles of the journal. For an article to be published, the date of receipt and the date of approval will be considered. Acceptance of articles by the editorial board does not guarantee publication.

Issues will have specific or general topics defined by the publications committee.

3. CONTENT

Articles must be submitted in letter-size pages, set the margins to 3.0cm on the top, 2.0cm on the right, 2.0cm on the left and 3.0cm on the bottom. All text should be single-spaced, with two-column format and Calibri font-style and a page limit of 10 pages (7 pages are recommended). Accent marks in titles must be used in capitalized words.

The template can be downloaded from the platform of the journal or provided by the staff in charge. The content is based on the aspects described below:

3.1 Title The title should be related to the topics of the projects and should not exceed 15 words. The title is capitalized (centered), with accent mark where needed, in bold Calibri (Body) 16 font size. Below the title in Spanish should be its translation into English enclosed in parentheses, in lower case, bold, centered, and Calibri 14 font size.

3.2 AuthorsAuthors’ identification and affiliation should be written in Calibri 12 font size. Follow these standards: a) Capitalize only the first letter of the full name (separated by a comma when there are

more than two authors). Do not add academic degrees before the author’s name such as Eng., S., MSc. or Phd. b) Authors affiliation (academic unit/center, institution, research group and e-mail) is written under the name. If the authors’ affiliation is different identify them with a subscript note. The committee is to write the acceptance date of the article in italics and in parentheses under the authors’ names. Henceforth the article is written in Calibri 10 font size.

3.3 AbstractIt is written in Spanish and English as shown by the example at the beginning of this article. The maximum number of words is 250. The abstract should state briefly and concisely the content of the article; intelligibility is of paramount importance to identify the topics discussed. Include the most relevant points, the study objectives, basic procedures (places or areas of study, observation and analysis methods), the most prominent results (specific data) and the main conclusions and most novel observations. A well-prepared abstract allows the readers to quickly and precisely identify the content of the document and to establish the relevance according to their interests in order to decide whether or not to read the entire document.

3.4 KeywordsThe keywords should be written in italicized title case, with the same size of the body of the text. Write Palabras clave with a colon (:) and double space, then write Keywords for the abstract in English. Provide from three to ten simple or compound terms with no more than three words, separated by commas. Notice that the main function of keywords is to classify the thematic content of the document. Therefore, it should reflect the subject of the article. To select keywords a thesaurus dictionary is suggested.

3.5 IntroductionThe serial journal I2+D (ISSN 1900-771X e-ISSN 2422-4324-) will share unpublished works in all fields of engineering and technology, in Spanish and English. Original research and/or technological innovation articles (with original results of research projects), review articles or replication articles of

the journal (analysis, integration of research with at least 50 references) will be published. In addition, abstracts of theses, book reviews and communications of interest to these professions may be included, the journal is aimed at professors, researchers, students and professionals interested in the continuous updating of their technological and scientific knowledge. The outline proposed for this articles is: i. Title: Spanish and English, ii. Abstract: Spanish and English, iii. Introduction, iv. Methodology, v. Interpretation of results. vii. Conclusions, viii. Acknowledgements –may include the organizations that funded the research–, xi. Bibliography: –considering the uniformity guidelines of the journal–.Articles submitted to the journal should comply with the characteristics of any of the types of documents of research and innovation listed on the National guide of journals indexed in Publindex or whoever is acting on its behalf (Colciencias, 2006).

Articles of scientific and technological research: Documents that show, in detail, the original results of completed research projects. The document must contain at least: abstract, introduction, methodology, results and conclusions.

Opinion articles: Documents that show the research results of completed projects from an authors’ viewpoint with an analytical, interpretative or critical perspective about a particular topic based on original sources.

Review articles: Documents that show the results of a finished research that analyze, synthesize and integrate results of published and unpublished research on a field of science or technology, in order to account for the progress and development trends. It is characterized by a literature review of at least 50 references.Articles submitted to the journal I2+D must be original and must not have been published elsewhere or submitted simultaneously in other journals or publishing agencies. Along with the article, an authorization letter signed by the author (s) in charge of receiving communications from the journal must be sent. Moreover, the Editorial Board of the journal reserves the right to print and totally or partially distribute the information received as well as to accept or reject the article. The Board also reserves

the right to make editorial or stylistic changes where deemed appropriate. In that case, the author will receive written recommendations made by the evaluators. If accepted, the author must submit the article with the adjustments by the deadline set by the journal to guarantee its publication in the scheduled issue.

3.6 ContentThe author decides the titles and the number of titles used in the article. However, there are some parameters that have to be observed.

Sections titles should be centered, bold and upper case. Subsections should be Italicized and title case, except for the connecting words (on, in, for, etc.) and articles (a, an, the), except if they are used to start the title. The numbering of the sections and subsections of second and third levels are multilevel.

If subsections after the third level are needed, they should be written in all-caps text, indented and without numbers.

3.6.1 Background. Only included if the authors consider it relevant.

3.6.2 Methodology. The title Methodology is not mandatory, but the description of the methodological process is important. Authors define the number of sections and their titles according to the hierarchy of the subject. Experimental processes, previous design techniques, state of the art, evaluation systems, data collection techniques, etc., among other methodological tools, should be explained in these sections.

3.6.3. Results. Authors define the number of sections and their titles. The achievements obtained through experimentation, analysis, comparison, diagnosis, context studies, etc. are explained in these sections.

3.6.4 Analysis and discussion of results. Authors define the number of sections and their titles according to the results and their analysis.

3.6.5. Figures. Figures and photographs must be original; they should be presented in gray-scale.

Colors will only be accepted if they are required for the understanding of the information. A minimum resolution of 300 dpi should be guaranteed for the images to be printed on any kind of paper, they should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. Figures should be labeled sequentially with the word “Figure”, followed by the number (in bold), and a description to identify its content should be written in Calibri 10 font size. The word Figure or Graph must be lowercase except for the first letter; the size of the explanatory text of figures should also be Calibri 10 font size as shown in the examples of this article, figures should be cited in the text before they appear. Do not use low-resolution figures because they affect the quality of the article. Identification and description of figures and graphs should be written below them.

Graphs should have standard colors (red, blue, green and yellow); solid colors that highlight the background of the figure are recommended, so that they can be duplicated on any system. Complex colors should be avoided, i.e., the combination of the same type of color in different shades. Two examples of figures are shown. Figure 1 is an example of a graph in grayscale. Figure 2 shows the distribution of an image with good resolution. (See Figures 1 and 2).

Figure 1. Example of presentation of a graph in grayscale.

Figure 2. Example distribution figure with good resolution.

If the explanation of the figure has paragraphs a, b, etc., they are enclosed in parentheses and each section ends in a period. It can be presented in two ways, Example: i. form 1. Figure 3. Seafloor spreading. (A) Rising of mantle material along the mid oceanic ridge system. (B) Convection of the mantle material. (C) Ocean bottom similar to the movement of a conveyor belt to the trenches where the ocean floor descends into the mantle. (SOURCE: Theory of Harry Hess, 1998). ii. form 2. Figure 3. Theory of seafloor spreading proposed by Harry Hess, (1998). (A) Rising of mantle material along the mid oceanic ridge system. (B) Convection of the mantle material. (C) Ocean bottom similar to the movement of a conveyor belt to the trenches where the ocean floor descends into the mantle.

The description of the figure has the same description and source guidelines above when appropriate.

If the figure is taken from a book or journal, the source of information must be cited. If it belongs to the author, there is no need to cite the source.

If you need to cite the source (SOURCE: Theory of Harry Hess, 1998).

When the size of a figure is too long or wide, it can be extended to the space of both columns. It should be centered and well laid out on the page.

When the figure is determined by two illustrations (or more) they should be marked in capital letters (A, B, etc.) in bold. The description of the figure has the same description and source guidelines above when appropriate (see Figure 3).

3.6.6. Tables. The names of the tables are written on top. Like the figures, they should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. The label begins with the word "Table" followed by the number (in bold); use Calibri 10 font size as shown in the example in this article. Except for the first row, the tables do not have horizontal or vertical dividing lines (see Table 1). The identification of Tables and Charts is written at the top; use Calibri 10 font size and justify according to the size of the table, be careful not to write a full stop at the end of the description of the Table, e.g., Table 3. Isotopic composition of sulphide minerals in shallow and ground waters in the margin of the Ebro basin

If the Table and Chart data are taken from a book or journal, the source must be cited at the end of the description of the table or independently to the bottom left of the table.

Table 1. Example table for publishing articlesItem Size StyleTitle 16 Bold,

UppercaseAuthors 12 Calibri

Body of text: 10 Calibri

Header sections

10 Cursive

Sources in tables may be 10 points. Their source must define their origin.

3.6.7 Equations. They should be published in an appropriate editor, such as Microsoft Equation Editor. They should also be justified, numbered sequentially and with numbers in parentheses:

(1)

(2)

If equations are used in the article, they must be consecutively numbered, cited and used in the text.

3.6.8 Citation. The citation used in this format is numeric, according to the order in which documents are being mentioned, consecutively number in bracket [] reference citations. Appointments are made within the content of the article, where authors wish to reference a theme. No need to say, for example "in the reference [12]... or Ref." [12] "." "The phrase" [27]... "is enough."

Is important that each of the appointments that are interspersed in the text has its corresponding reference in the final list and, conversely, every entry in the list of references should have been cited within the text.

3.7 RecommendationsThey are written only if the authors consider them relevant. The number of the section corresponds to the sequence of the article content and they are always written after the conclusions.

3.8 ReferencesThe number of the section corresponds to the sequence of the article content and they are the last section. References are exemplified in the References section of this article example (Annex).

CONCLUSIONS

Page 6: Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia ...€¦ · Web viewEl presente artículo describe los lineamientos que se utilizan para someter a aprobación y publicar artículos

Journal of Engineering, Research and Development

The conclusions should briefly describe the major contributions made by the study and reported in the manuscript. They are one of the most important parts of the article, they are not numbered and each conclusion constitutes a separate paragraph.

The title “CONCLUSION” is mandatory. The number of the section corresponds to the sequence of the article content.

REFERENCES

Is important that each appointment be referenced completely and correctly, highlighting the importance of these for the reader. The magazine does not verify incomplete or erroneous, references unless they are detected by the reviewers, in this case the article will lose value and the authors its credibility.

According to the IEEE style, the sources are indicated by a number within the text, number that corresponds to the full bibliographic information that should be included in a list of references submitted at the end of the document and is organized in the numerical order in the citations.

Should only appear the references of the documents that were cited within the body of the work, like the figures, tables, diagrams etc. Any statements in the text of the article from another document or publication must be recognized by the respective reference.

Once you assign a number to a given source, the same number must be used in all references to the source in the text. Each issue of references must be in square brackets [], e.g., "... with the studies [2].", it is not necessary to mention the author (s), in the reference, unless it is relevant in the text itself, not the date of publication in the body of the document must be mentioned.

Do not locate references in the footnotes page, refer to the bibliography for number, for example, [2]; for individual references, [2.6]; for two non-consecutive references and [5-9]; to group consecutive references.

Each reference can include up to six authors; for bibliographic entries with one greater number of authors can be used the abbreviation "et al.".

Updated references (5 years ago) search is recommended; DOI inclusion is mandatory in the references.

For citations and references the magazine uses IEEE style, below are some examples of citation:
