Without the cooperation of the students, the lesson will fail. Students then must be motivated to use books and the library to enhance learning in the classroom.

Librarians are equally important for they are the mediators of information between users and the collection. They select and acquire learning resources needed for the attainment of quality education primarily for their end users. The utilization of these resources lies in the hands of the librarian primarily and to teachers secondarily. Promotion on the use is done by the librarian while encouragement on the use like requiring the students to use materials in the library is the task of the teacher. All of these activities are directed to the library’s vision, mission, goals and objectives. Library culture can largely be attributed to the librarians for they are the managers of the unit for it reflects what they are capable and able to influence. The kind of library culture can also be traced on the kind of librarian assigned in the library. Thus, the impact of library culture can convey a sense of identity and personality based on the shaping attitudes, behaviors, values and practices of the academic community.

Other contributory factors in the shaping of library culture of one’s academic community are: 1) administration, 2) curriculum and instruction; 3) policies; and 4) technological innovations. The support of the administration to the library’s projects and innovations can define such library culture. The kind of approved innovations speaks of the kind of support being given such that organizational culture and behavior defines such educational brand we have. The budgetary requirements of a project create a big deal in its realization not to mention the approval of the project plan as to for the sake of completion or highest form of standards.

On the other hand, curriculum and instruction

cannot be separated with the library and that may be the reason why it is under the academics and not administration. It covers reliable sources of information which is a necessity in teaching and learning thus, updated books are included as part of the syllabi in some if not most of the educational institutions. The library is a supporting unit to curriculum and instruction not only for the learning resources but also on the promotion of information literacy which eventually contribute indirectly or directly to learning of students and instructional delivery of teachers.

Policies can enhance or impede the use of library

resources. This again will boomerang on the mentality of librarians as to what is their priority, that is, security over usability of library resources, access versus ownership, open shelf or closed shelf system, etc. Some libraries have very restrictive policies and that will result to the non-use of such material. Such restrictive policies must be reviewed carefully for the benefit of the students.

Technological Innovations are the most trending of

all. If we will be contented with the traditional culture of a library, we will be left out in the field. Most libraries nowadays are adopting technological applications to improve services such using email or text for sending overdue notices, using Youtube for students who missed the library orientation, using blog to get feedbacks, using Facebook to promote new resources and services, etc. There are a lot of things to be learned in terms of technology to keep up with the new breed of library users.

Library Culture in the Academic Setting

The term “library culture” has been introduced in the field of librarianship decades ago and yet it is still in its infancy stage. Very few literature and studies can be found either in print or online resources. Thus, this is an attempt to make discussions on this topic.

The term “culture” according to Elridge and Crombie, (1974) “refers to the unique configuration of norms, values, beliefs, ways of behaving and so on, that characterize the manner in which groups and individuals combine to get things done.” Banks & McGee (1989) concluded that “most social scientists view culture as consisting primarily of the symbolic, ideational, and intangible aspects of human societies and to them, the essence of a culture is not its artifacts, tools, or other tangible cultural elements but how the members of the group interpret, use, and perceive them.” Thus, they defined culture as the values, symbols, interpretations, and perspectives that distinguish one people from another in modernized societies; it is not material objects and other tangible aspects of human societies. According to Adeyoyin (2006), “Culture is manifested in the form of norms, the unwritten rules of behavior and values, what is regarded as important, expressed as beliefs on what is best or good for the organization and what ought to happen.”

In the field of library and information science, "library culture” refers to the human knowledge, standards, values, beliefs, behaviors, attitudes, and practices of the academic community that defines the intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics of the library.

The library is a learning resource center wherein it is the source of information for teaching, research, learning and study. The faculty use the library to obtain instructional and learning resources for their lessons while the students use it to do their assignments, projects, term papers or researches. It is then the librarian’s role to suffice the need of faculty and students, that is, to provide credible, sufficient, relevant and updated learning resources not only for professional growth but also for personal development.

There are three key players that define the library culture of an academic community, namely: 1) faculty, 2) students, and 3) librarians. The teachers have very significant role in shaping the library culture of the students. Requiring them to use the library resources for their assignments, advanced reading and study, and research will not only develop their minds but also cultivate their love for books and the library as their partner in attaining their quality education. Learning takes place when teachers do follow their lessons which are based on credible sources of information.

Students have special role in shaping the library culture of an academic community. They are the ultimate recipients of the services offered by the library through the initiative of the librarians. Moreover, the students are the primary targets of the creative and innovative teaching and learning modules which are prepared by the teachers.

Geriatric Nursing is a comprehensive source

for clinical information and management

advice relating to the care of older adults.

The journal's peer-reviewed articles report the

latest developments in the management of

acute and chronic disorders and provide

practical advice on care of older adults across

the long term continuum. Geriatric Nursing

addresses current issues related to drugs, advance directives,

staff development and management, legal issues, client and

caregiver education, infection control, and other topics. The

journal is written specifically for nurses and nurse practitioners

who work with older adults in any care setting. Geriatric Nursing

is the official journal of the American Assisted Living Nurses

Association, National Gerontological Nursing Association and

Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association and is

indexed in Medline, ISI and CINAHL.

Accounting and Business Research publishes papers containing a substantial and original contribution to knowledge. Papers may cover any area of accounting, broadly defined and including corporate governance, auditing and taxation. However the focus must be accounting, rather than (corporate) finance or general management. Authors may take a

theoretical or an empirical approach, using either quantitative or qualitative methods. They may aim to contribute to developing and understanding the role of accounting in business. Papers should be rigorous but also written in a way that makes them intelligible to a wide range of academics and, where appropriate, practitioners.

Critical Care Nurse is a bimonthly peer-reviewed journal which provides critical care and acute care nurses with accurate, relevant, and useful information concerning the bedside care of critically and acutely ill patients and to keep critical and acute care nurses informed on issues that affect their practice. By reading any issue of CRITICAL CARE NURSE, critical

care and acute care nurses should benefit through increased knowledge concerning critical and acute care nursing practice and be able to use this knowledge to care for patients and their

families in a more effective manner. The Journal of Accounting Education (JAEd) is a refereed journal dedicated to promoting and publishing research on accounting education issues and to improving the quality of accounting education worldwide. The Journal provides a vehicle for making results of empirical studies available to

educators and for exchanging ideas and instructional re-sources that help improve accounting education. The Journal

includes three sections: A Main Articles Section, a Teaching and Educational Notes Section, and a Case Section. The Journal of Chemical Education is the official journal of the Division of Chemical Education of the American Chemical Society, co-published with the American Chemical Society Publications Division. Launched in 1924, the Journal of Chemical Education published monthly

and the world’s premier chemical education journal. The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles and related information as a re-source to those in the field of chemical education and to those insti-tutions that serve them. JCE typically addresses chemical content, activities, laboratory experiments, instructional methods, and pedagogies. The Journal serves as a means of communication among people across the world who is interested in the teaching and learning of chemistry. This includes instructors of chemistry from middle school through graduate school, professional staff that

support these teaching activities, as well as some scientists in commerce, industry, and govern-ment.

For both pharmacists and technicians, Journal of

Pharmacy Technology provides valuable

peer-reviewed information for those interested in

the entire body of pharmacy practice.

The Journal of Pharmacy Technology covers new

drugs, products, and equipment; therapeutic trends; organizational,

legal, and educational activities; and drug distribution and admin-

istration information. This journal is a member of

the Committee on Publication Ethics

(COPE).

The Philippine Journal of Engineering serves as a national medium of exchange of technical information and dissemination of engineering knowledge through the publication of

technical papers, technical notes, and research briefs. Published by the U.P. Engineering Research and Development Foundation, Inc. for the National Engineering Center, the Philip-pine Engineering Journal is being distributed at reasonable rates to

various government agencies, private industri-al concerns, engineering schools, profes-sional organizations, international entities and practitioners in the field of engineering.

Strategic Finance is the flagship publication

of IMA, the world’s leading association for

accountants and financial professionals in

business. An award-winning monthly magazine,

Strategic Finance provides the latest information about practices

and trends in finance, accounting, and information manage-

ment that will impact accountants and financial profession-
