ADDENDUM NO. 2

May 11, 2015 To the Plans and Specifications for:

Project No. UAK 150004 The University of Akron

Auburn Science & Engineering Center: Exterior Façade Restoration and Lower Roofs Replacement 235 Carroll Street Akron, Ohio 44325

TO ALL BIDDERS: This Addendum supplements and amends the original Plans and Specifications and shall be taken into account in preparing proposals and shall become a part of the Contract Documents. GENERAL CLARIFICATIONS AND INFORMATION Site Access: The alley that runs from north to south between Whitby Hall and The Auburn Science and Engineering Center is available for the Contractors to use for staging, site access and the location of a dumpster during the Project. The Contractors shall not permanently block the alley to prevent use of the existing loading dock, overhead door and trash dumpsters. Final location of the project dumpster in this alley shall be approved by the University before placement. The Roofing Replacement Contractor may use the Vivarium Tower elevator for transporting materials to Roof Area A. Such use shall be coordinated with the University’s ongoing daily operations. Protect the interior of the elevator to prevent damage or soiling of surfaces. CHANGES TO BIDDING AND CONTRACTING REQUIREMENTS None CHANGES TO SPECIFICATIONS Section 01 1100 – Summary of Work Amend paragraphs 1.4 C and D (sheet metal work items) according to clarifications to Section 07

6200 below.

Scope Clarification for Skylight restoration (Roofing Replacement Contract): Glass panels shall remain in place. Clean existing metal glazing channels on exterior side of skylight and apply new wet-applied Dow 795 silicone sealant or equal by GE or Tremco. Do not disturb existing sealed butt joints of glass. Remove existing exposed-fastener coping panels. Inspect existing wood blocking. Add new blocking. Flash and re-install coping as shown. Re-seal joints between coping panels with urethane sealant in matching color. Seat all exposed fasteners in coping in silicone sealant. Refer to Sketch SK-2, dated 5/11/15 attached.

Section 03 0141 – Pre-Cast Concrete Restoration

Omit paragraphs 1.02 C and G.

Substitute the name Bonsal with BASF in every case. Section 04 0513 – Masonry Mortar Omit Paragraph 1.4 D (Petrographic Analysis).

Mortar Colors have been selected as follows:

For the lighter colored masonry fields, provide Cemex Richcolor 58-H Limestone. For the Darker brick (South Tower, South Elevation, Lower portion: Cemex “Richcolor 61H Roasted Pecan”.

Section 04 2000 – Unit Masonry The light face brick selected as a match for the majority of masonry restoration work is Belden

Beacon Gray Velour, Sugarcreek Plant 8. Belden brick No. 661 Velour has been determined to match the darker-toned brick on the lower portion of the South Tower, South Elevation.

Section 05 5000 – Metal Fabrications

2.04 Fabricated Items: Space ladder rungs as detailed on Drawings. Provide non-slip rung surface complying with OSHA requirements.

On Roof Area B Mechanical units on the east side of the roof, replace equipment supports (Uni-strut) with new matching existing size and configuration.

Section 07 6200 – Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim

Scope of this Section is clarified as follows:

Provide Coping (paragraph 2.1.1) at the following locations:

Roof Area A Penthouse

Roof Area C North Entrance

Small roof on Roof C.

Area well on Roof C.

Re-use all existing coping not specified above. Replace existing exposed fasteners with new stainless steel fasteners in such cases.

Provide Edge Metal/Fascia (paragraph 2.1.2) at the following locations:

Roof Area A parapet.

Roof Area B to replace stone coping.

Section 08 5113 – Aluminum Windows

Peerless, YKK, and Litex are acceptable manufacturers of windows for the Project. Windows shall comply with the specified requirements, whether or not such requirements are standard components for the listed manufacturers.

Window manufacturer shall incorporate integral frame weep system into window construction and provide detail of such on window shop drawings. This information also applies to Drawing A601 – Window Elevations & Details Detail 1/A601 Operable Window Sill Detail.

CHANGES TO DRAWINGS D101 Enlarged Roof Plan Area C – Demolition

The small roof over the doorway at the southeast segment of the roof area is a membrane roof that is not in the scope of work for this Project. See also clarifications to Drawing A104 below. Membrane roofing indicated to be removed and replaced by Demolition Note 4 at the Northwest corner of Area C includes the 12-inch-wide strip of roofing immediately to the north which is obscured from view by a structural beam.

A101 – Enlarged Roof Plan - Area A Furnish and install insulation crickets at penetrations as specified, including but not limited to the

north and south ends of the stair tower penthouse. A102 – Enlarged Roof Plan - Area B

The curbs of the large HVAC unit on the West portion of Roof B shall be re-flashed to the current elevation. All others shall be raised to the minimum height of 8-inches above the finished roof surface according to NRCA requirements. Refer to Sketch SK-3, dated 5/11/15 attached. Change detail reference detail number 9/A407 to 6/A407 in all cases on this sheet.

A103 – Enlarged Roof Plan - Area B Continued

Change detail reference detail number 9/A407 to 6/A407 in all cases on this sheet. A104 – Enlarged Roof Plan Area C

Omit references to Detail 9/A410 on this sheet. At the south door of the Vivarium Tower, use Detail 11/A402 in lieu of 6/A402.

A105 – Enlarged Roof Plan Area D Omit reference to Detail 9/A410. Terminate membrane with through-wall flashing. Omit the current saddle at the east side of the large vent hood between column lines H and J.

Furnish and install cricket at the west side of this unit. Drawings A201 through A204 Under the description of Shelf Angles (SA) replace shelf angles at all locations that have

deteriorated greater than 20 percent of the original size in lieu of the specified 25 percent. This applies to all sheets and specifications referencing this percentage. Refer to Sketch SK-1, dated 5/5/15 referenced in S-Series drawing clarifications below.

Drawing A402 – Modified Bitumen Roof Details Incorporate detail 3/A402 according to attached Sketch SK-4, dated 5/11/15. Drawing S001 – Structural Notes Paragraph C.2.b (Live and Dead Loads): Live Load for Plaza shall read as 100 psf. Paragraph D. (Reinforced Concrete): Precast Concrete shall be minimum 5,000 psi with 0.50

Water/Cement ratio. Cast-In-Place Concrete shall be minimum 4,000 psi with 0.50 Water Cement ratio. Add Paragraphs G and H as follows: G. Inspections and Testing 1. Inspections and testing are to be provided in addition to the inspections conducted by the department of building safety and shall not be constructed to relieve the Owner or his authorized agent from requesting the periodic and called inspections required by the Ohio Building Code. All inspections and testing shall be paid by the contractor. 2. The following items will require inspection and testing in accordance with the building code and project specifications:

a. Concrete repairs. b. Structural steel fabrication. c. High strength bolts.

3. Inspection agency shall meet the qualifications as stated in the building code and shall perform the duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Ohio Building Code. 4. Submit names of individuals and firms to the architect for approval. 5. Inspection agency shall furnish records of inspections to the architect and building official. Reports shall indicated that the work inspected was in conformance to approved construction documents. H. Shop Drawings 1. Shop drawings shall be submitted for concrete mix designs, reinforcing bars, repair mortar, repair procedures and structural steel for review prior to ordering and fabricating material. 2. All shop drawings must be checked by the fabricator and bear checker’s initials before being submitted for review. The contractor shall check all shop drawings for compliance with the contract documents and his approval stamp shall be placed on each shop drawing indicating such before being submitted for review. 3. Any work done prior to receipt of Owner approved shop drawings is at the contractor’s risk and shall be corrected at the contractor’s expense.
