Career Progression

University of London LLB is accepted as a pre-requisite academic qualification to the professional stage in many Common Law jurisdictions. Many of our graduates have been admitted to practise in Hong Kong and England and Wales. There are also graduates who, by relying on the University of London LLB studied with HKU SPACE, are admitted to practise in other jurisdictions.

Hong Kong Students who wish to qualify as lawyers in Hong Kong must hold the P.C.LL. and there are nine Core Subjects required for entry to the P.C.LL. programme. Completion of the University of London LLB fulfills most of the Core Subjects requirement. "Missing" competencies and Top-up Subjects, however, can be acquired via taking the Conversion Exams. For full details, please refer to the following websites:

HKU P.C.LL. Programme: www.ple.hku.hk/the-pcll P.C.LL. Conversion Examination: www.pcea.com.hk

England and Wales Students who wish to qualify as lawyers in England and Wales should be mindful of the change in admission requirements. Up until 2019/20 academic year, completion of a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) has been common to both intending solicitors and barristers. However, from 2019/20 academic year, the academic stage requirements have changed and the requirements are no longer common to both intending solicitors and barristers. The requirements for satisfying the academic stage of training will now depend on the year that you began your LLB and the profession you wish to enter. For full details, please refer to the followings:

Other Common You are advised to check with the appropriate professional accreditation body to confirm that the University of London LLB (Standard Route/ Graduate Route Entry) is acceptable for the purpose of entry into legal practice in the jurisdiction concerned, and if there are any other requirements such as hours of attendance of course, or residency.

Appendix I

Quality learning continues despite difficulties

Live teaching by outstanding teachers and strong support for students

Face-to-face tuition by outstanding UK teachers is long treasured as a defining feature of HKU SPACE

Preparation Courses for the University of London law programmes. Despite all the disruptions

caused by the pandemic, we have succeeded in keeping all these Preparation Courses delivered live

and real-time on schedule by the same outstanding UK teachers. Students have been able to engage

actively and generally their study plans have not been interrupted.

Resilience ensures quality learning and continuity

Technology and professionalism have a big role to play to ensure continuity of quality learning:

• Virtual Classroom—lecture sessions have been delivered live by the same teachers from the

UK, by and large according to the same class schedules.

• Sophisticated learning platforms—highly resourced University of London VLE and HKU

SPACE SOUL2.0 have been effectively and fully used.

• Additional support to students—regular updates, occasional hints, additional learning

materials, speedy attention or even extra sessions have been given to facilitate students’

learning and engagement.

When will Virtual Classroom be used?

1. All classes will be planned and scheduled as physical, face-to-face classes taught by our team

of visiting UK teachers.

2. If the situation (such as implementation of lockdown, quarantine measures or restrictions

on international flights) does not permit physical classes, announcement will be made in due

course before class commencement. Virtual classroom will then be used. Please login HKU

SPACE Student Portal SOUL2.0 https://soul2.hkuspace.hku.hk/ for updates.

3. If Virtual Classroom is to be used, there will be measures to ensure students’ equitable

access and engagement. If necessary, additional sessions and other support will be provided.

No extra costs will be imposed. No reduction of paid course fees will apply.

4. Physical teaching and learning will be resumed once situation permits.
