He has a pair of 30-plus scoring games this year and has won National Mid-Major Player of the Week (Dec. 7) and Louisiana Player of the Week (Dec. 21) this season. Deng has 12 career double-doubles and is coming off a 14-point, 11-rebound performance at Georgia Southern

- Munnings ranks second in the SBC in field goal percentage (.540). He has four double-doubles on the season and nine double-figure scoring games. Munnings scored a career-high 22 points at Penn State and also pulled down 10 rebounds in the contest

- Coppola ranks seventh all-time in career assists at ULM with 303 and needs 21 more to catch Casey Jones and move into sixth. Coppola also ranks eighth in total minutes played and ninth in career starts. He averages 35.1 minutes per game in his career, second-most in school history. He’s played at least 40 minutes 28 times in his career including a school record 54 minutes vs. Canisius. Coppola has started every game in his career. He played 1,384 minutes last year, third most in the nation and also third in single-season program history. Additionally, Coppola finished second in the SBC last season in both assist:turnover ratio (2.0) and assists (3.7 apg)

- Roberson averages 1.8 steals per game through six SBC games which ranks third in the conference. He’s leading the team in steals for the second consecutive year. Roberson is shooting a team-high .421 from beyond-the-arc. He’s notched seven double-figure scoring games in his last eight outings and is coming off a career-high 20 points at Georgia Southern

- Samuel has scored in double-digits nine times this year. He poured in a career-high 19 points at No. 14 West Virginia and scored ULM’s first 15 points of the contest. He also recorded a 15-point game at Arkansas State

- Senior DeMondre Harvey has been ULM’s most efficient player off the bench as he’s hit 33-62 (.532) field goals this season and went 7-7 from the field against Canisius in 40 minutes. He started three games in-place of Deng. Harvey led the team in field goal percentage in back-to-back years coming into this season

- ULM holds back-to-back wins over teams selected to win their leagues in the preseason polls as it defeated Chattanooga, 64-54, in addition to UL-Lafayette. The Mocs were picked to win the Southern Conference and were ranked No. 8 in the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Top-25 poll at the time of the game

- The Warhawks pushed a pair of Big Ten opponents to the brink. ULM led 51-50 with 6:44 remaining at Minnesota, and 40-39 with 5:34 left at Penn State. The Warhawks were without Deng against the Nittany Lions

- Three of ULM’s non-conference losses came without Deng (at Kent State, Penn State and West Virginia). He sat out for precautionary reasons due to a lower leg injury

- ULM never trailed in four out of its six wins this season (against McMurry, Northwestern State, UL-Lafayette and Appalachian State)

- ULM posted a wire-to-wire victory over Appalachian State, 72-56, to improve to 2-0 in the league. The Warhawks used a 7-0 run in the second half to go up 54-38 with 12:47 remaining and their lead never dropped below 13 points after that

- Keith Richard picked up his 200th career victory as a head coach in an 80-64 victory over Northwestern State on Nov. 19. Both Deng and Munnings recorded double-doubles in the contest

- ULM opened the season with an 88-43 victory over McMurry. The 45-point margin of victory was ULM’s largest in school history in a season opener. The Warhawks improved to 47-18 all-time in home openers

- Keith Richard is the reigning Sun Belt Conference and Louisiana Coach of the Year winner. It comes after a 24-win season, the third-most in school history and also the third biggest turnaround in the country from the year before. It was ULM’s first 20-win season since 2001-02. Richard has more-than doubled ULM’s win totals in back-to-back years

- The Warhawks made a run to the CBI championship series last year for their 10th postseason appearance in school history and the first since 1995-96. They played their first-ever game in the month of April in their 64-year history. They were also the first team from the SBC to ever play a game in April

- ULM picked up a pair of preseason honors as Deng was named to the 2015-16 All-Conference Second-Team, while Coppola earned recognition on the Third-Team. Deng was also named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-SBC First-Team while Coppola was Third-Team (page 10)

- ULM is in its second season without any APR penalties which Richard inherited when he took over at the helm. Richard has turned the program around athletically and academically as the Warhawks have won back-to-back-to-back Sun Belt Conference academic awards

- The Warhawks will honor their 1985-86 NCAA Tournament team on Feb. 12-13 for their 30th anniversary. The Warhawks won both the Southland Conference Regular Season and Postseason titles that year

The Trojans are coming off a 66-57 victory at home against Texas State on Saturday. It was their first league win of the season as they carry a 1-5 SBC record and 6-11 overall. Their non-conference slight was highlighted by wins at South Florida, North Texas and Southern Miss, and an overtime loss at Ole Miss.

Wesley Person, the SBC Freshman of the Year winner last season, leads the team with 17.4 points per game. Jordon Vernado scores 15.9 points per outing and is shooting .386 from long-range. Jeremy Hollimon aver-ages 11.8 points per game, and John Walton III records 9.1 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game. All four also average at least 10 points per game in league play.

In SBC games, the Trojans average 8.0 three-pointers made per game which is the second-most in the league. They shoot .345 from beyond-the-arc as a team, but allow a .372 mark.

A 25-year coaching veteran, Phil Cunningham is in his third season at head coach. He spent 12 sea-sons as an assistant coach at Mississippi State before joining the staff at WKU for one year. Cunning-ham’s teams at Mississippi State and WKU made 11 postseason appearances in 13 years, including seven NCAA Tournament appearances, and all 12 of the recruiting classes he was involved with at Mississippi State were nationally recognized.

Cunningham was a part of five Southeastern Conference Western Division crowns, one overall confer-ence championship and two conference tournament titles in his final nine seasons at Mississippi State, and the Bulldogs averaged over 20 wins per season since he joined the staff before the 2000-01 season.

2015-16 Stats

History Behind the ‘Warhawk’ Moving into the Sun Belt Conference in the 2006-07 season, ULM’s athletic department completed a transformation. The mascot holds a local historical connection to the P-40 ‘Warhawk’ airplane flown by northeast Louisiana’s General Claire Chen-nault and the Flying Tigers of WWII. The Warhawk is also symbolic of the red-shouldered hawk, a local predatory bird commonly found nesting along Bayou DeSiard and soaring above ULM’s athletic facitilities. ULM’s Warhawk moniker is the only one at the NCAA Division I level. Prior to becoming the ULM Warhawks, the school competed as the Northeast Louisiana Indians.
