Go Ape, Saturday 16 October, £30A day of fun on giant obstacle courses high up in the trees! Hailed as Chorley’s own mini Lake District, with its rugged hills, picturesque reservoirs and woodland bustling with wildlife, Rivington is a perfect location for Go Ape.

Blackpool Illuminations, Saturday 6 November, £10At ten kilometres long and using over a million bulbs, the Blackpool Illuminations are an awesome spectacle consisting of every type of light display you can imagine.
Paintballing, Saturday 13 November, £30Enjoy an adrenalin fuelled day at this brand new paintball centre at Chorley. With vast woodlands it’s perfectly set-up for paintball action and will test players of all abilities.
Knowsley Safari Park, Saturday 27 November, £20Families are welcome on this memorable day out. You’ll see animals including lions, elephants and monkeys roam wild in acres of beautiful countryside.

Hi, I’m Ricky. I studied Business and Management at the University and last year I was Vice President for Health and Social Care.
My role is to lead the Students’ Union, making sure you have an awesome time at University, and that the Students’ Union is doing all you want us to do. I’ve just graduated in Performing Arts at Salford and I was chairperson of the Almost Famous Theatre Company Society. You’ve paid a lot of money to come to Salford, so we want to make sure you’re happy with studying here! Ensuring that students’ voices are represented to the University is one of the most important things we do as your Students’ Union and we can bring about change at the highest levels.
The sabbatical officers hold regular events where you can let them know your views, look out for these on our website and advertised across the campuses. You can also contact your sabbatical officer directly – see pages 4 and 5 for details.
Alternatively, if you’ve any issues related to your course you can get in touch with your student representative. There’s a student rep on every course and their role is to take any issues to the University and make sure these are fully discussed and acted on. You’ll find out who your student rep is when you start in the new term.

Coming to university can be a daunting time and your Students’ Union is here to provide you with all the support you need.Our Advice Centre provides free advice to students on a range of areas and we specialise in academic issues. We’re independent of the University, but our close working relationship means we can act on your behalf to resolve any issues.
Whatever problem you might be facing, our friendly and supportive staff are here to help and there will be someone to talk to throughout your time at Salford.
Our centre in University House on the Peel Park campus is open 9am to 4pm Monday to Thursday and from 9am until 12.30pm on Fridays.

If you don’t have the time to commit to a student activity group, but still want to get involved in student activities, Give It A Go could be what you’re looking for. It’s an opportunity to try out a range of activities at low cost, from yoga to photography.Give It A Go also involves some exciting trips to places like Alton Towers and Blackpool Illuminations (see page 2). You’ll have fun and and meet other students, so why not book your place on one or more trips today?
Our programme will run for the entire first semester. There’s no joining fee and no commitment needed – you just pick and choose the sessions that interest you. Keep an eye on the website for details of what will be available: www.salfordstudents.com/giag
Give It A Go is perfect for me because I don’t know how much free time I’ll have from week to week. It means I’m still able to try loads of new things – I’m a big fan of belly dancing!

Look out for the Activities Fair on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 September when you’ll be able to meet all the student activity groups at Salford.
Getting involved in student activities is a great way to make friends, develop new skills and experience and really feel part of the student community here at Salford. When you graduate, it shows employers that your skills stretch beyond academic achievements. Our clubs and societies are known as student activity groups and there are over 70 you can get involved in, covering every interest under the sun. We cater for a variety of sporting abilities and offer everything from snow sports to rowing to football. Our sports clubs meet every week and many compete in British University Leagues.
If sport isn’t your thing, there are groups covering interests including literature, performing arts and charity work. There are also a number of religious and international groups, which can help you meet people with similar backgrounds or beliefs.
Being part of Almost Famous Theatre Society has been the best part of my time here at university. We’ve put on so many shows and it’s through this that I’ve have met most of my friends. If I hadn’t got involved, my university experience just wouldn’t have been the same.

Café culture has come to Salford in the form of our stylish Café Yours in University House! You can relax, go online, read and chat in a comfortable, alcohol free venue, while sampling an impressive range of food and drinks. We know your tastes are as diverse as you are, so we offer something for everyone, including halal and vegetarian options.
Open from 8.30am until early evening every weekday, Café Yours is the perfect place to grab your morning coffee, meet friends between lectures or put your feet up after a long day.
Bar Yours in University House is Salford’s student bar and your new local! What better way to get to know people at Salford than by heading here - relax, have a chat and before you know it, you’ll feel right at home! There’s a wide selection of meals and a great drinks range.
The bar is open from 11am to 11pm, Monday through to Friday. There are three pool tables, a large projection screen for matches and fantastic views across campus. Wherever you are on campus, there’s bound to be a Students’ Union shop nearby. Our three shops provide all you need to get through the day including drinks, sandwiches, snacks, prepay mobile top-ups, international discounted call cards and magazines. There’s a range of Salford souvenirs available, including the must have Salford hoodies! You’ll also find useful extras like items for your course.
As you’d expect from your Union, the shops all offer great value for money. As well as rock bottom prices all year round, you can take advantage of a different promotional offer every three weeks, including great meal deals. Keep an eye on the website for details.
club niGHts Manchester nightclubs are some of the best in the UK and USSU will be unveiling an exciting weekly club night hosted by a Manchester venue in September.
