The Concise Illustrated Dictionary of Biocontrol Terms includes basic terminology related to the biological control of pests, together with state-of-the-art scientific and practical terms, for expedient comprehension and analysis of present, forecasted or in situ pest management problems. The biological control of pests using living organisms, or products from their activities, is an independent branch of science based on multiple disciplines including general biology, zoology, entomology, phytopathology, microbiology, and others. As a result, the field of biological control has its own specific terminology that needs to be understood and applied correctly across this variety of disciplines, including among those approaching the field from a different area of expertise and who may have difficulty understanding the terms used by experts in the field.

Epilepsy is due to abnormal signaling of neurons in the brain that can cause seizures. It is a common condition, affecting at least 3% of indi-
viduals at some point during their life. The seizures are difficult to predict and, in a significant fraction of patients, refractory to current medical interventions.
Written and edited by experts in the field, this collection from Cold Spring Harbor Perspectives in Medicine includes contributions covering all as-pects of epilepsy, its causes, pathophysiology, clinical characteristics, co-morbidities, and treatment. Contributors discuss the genetic, developmen-tal, and environmental triggers of recurrent seizures; molecular changes (e.g., epigenetic modifications) that are associated with epileptogenesis; and the aberrant ion channels and neuronal networks involved. Clini-cal aspects of the disease (diagnosis, classification, and treatments) are reviewed, as are common comorbidities (e.g., depression and cognitive disorders). Recent advances in drug development and surgical techniques aimed at reducing the morbidity and mortality of patients with epilepsy are also described.
The authors highlight current challenges in the field of epilepsy, with the goal of assisting others in formulating relevant research questions. This volume is therefore a vital reference not only for scientists and clinicians currently working in the field, but for all neuroscientists seeking to ex-plore new research directions.

Joseph Acquisto examines literary writers and critical theorists who employ theological frameworks, but who divorce those frameworks from questions of belief and thereby remove the doctrine of salvation from their considerations. Acquisto claims that Baudelaire inaugurates a new kind of amodern modernity by canceling the notion of salvation in his writing while also refusing to embrace any of its secular equivalents, such as historical progress or redemption through art.
Through a series of “interhistorical” readings that put Baudelaire into dialogue with literary and critical writers from the last 150 years, Acquisto highlights the way both literary and critical approaches attempt to articulate a third option between theism and atheism that also steers clear of political utopianism and Nietzschean estheticism. In the concluding section, Acquisto expands metaphysical and esthetic concerns to account also for the ethics inherent in the refusal of the logic of salvation, an ethics which emerges from, rather than seeking to redeem or cancel, a certain kind of nihilism.

In recent years, art historians have begun to delve into the
patronage, production and reception of sculptures-sculptors’
workshop practices; practical, aesthetic, and esoteric considerations
of material and materiality; and the meanings associated with
materials and the makers of sculptures. This volume brings
together some of the top scholars in the fi eld, to investigate how
sculptors in early modern Italy confronted such challenges as
procurement of materials, their costs, shipping and transportation
issues, and technical problems of materials, along with the
meanings of the usage, hierarchies of materials, and processes of
material acquisition and production. Contributors also explore the
implications of these facets in terms of the intended and perceived
meaning(s) for the viewer, patron, and/or artist. A highlight of the
collection is the epilogue, an interview with a contemporary artist
of large-scale stone sculpture, which reveals the similar challenges
sculptors still encounter today as they procure, manufacture and
transport their works.

While the term “public intellectual” has been used to describe scholars who seek to share their research with the public, little work has been done to examine the role of a public intellectual in the field of education. This book builds upon the notion of the public intellectual in a way that makes the term more accessible, using it to refer to education scholars who seek to share their research outside of academia. Media coverage of educational issues is rife with self-appointed experts on education who have claimed space in public discussions to define educational problems and dominate public dialogues on education. But where are the education researchers in these academic dialogues? This book addresses their absence, sharing the stories of scholars who are seeking to enter public dialogues and reclaim space for reasoned dialogue on education. The stories of public scholars highlighted here acknowledge that the policymaking arena is rife with value conflicts that can lead to dismissing or ignoring research if it does not fit with political agendas.

CYNTHIA GERSTL-PEPIN, Professor of Educational Leadership and Foundations at the University of Vermont, re-ceived her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She served as a Fulbright Scholar to China, co- edited Survival of the Fittest: The Shifting Contours of Higher Education in China and the United States, co-authored Reframing Educational Politics for Social Justice, co-edited Social Justice Leadership for a Global World, and has been published in numerous journals.
CYNTHIA REYES is Associate Professor of Middle Level Education and Literacy Education at the University of Ver-mont. She received her doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has published articles in various research journals including Educational Foundations and Research in the Teaching of English. Her research interests include digital literacy with English language learners, multilingual education and language policy, and narrative research.
