Makerble provides Transaction Transparency for online donations which costs 4p/£1 donated. This only applies to donations that students make to your RAG’s Lifestyle Bundle, it does not apply to your End Of Year total raised outside of Makerble. Our payment partner GoCardless charges 1p/£1.
Charities typically spend 15pence of each £1 you raise on future fundraising. With Makerble, they don’t invest that money into future fundraising because Makerble does the marketing for them and it only costs 4p+1p per £1, not 15p/£1. Our investment in Transaction Transparency means that donors can be sure that the money they donate is being spent on specific projects as opposed to disappearing into a general pot. The infrastructure and tools that we are
building in order to facilitate this transparency (e.g. mobile apps allowing charities to report from the field) is the reason this costs 4p/£1 and not 2p/£1.
Makerble began in Carnival RAG at the University of Birmingham as an idea of Matt Kepple in 2003. Now Matt wants RAGs to be the first
to use Makerble before it opens up to everyone else.
You can start fundraising using your Makerble Bundle this semester
i. Your RAG’s Lifestyle Bundle
1. You choose 1-3 projects that you want to fundraise for online over the year.
2. Students can donate lifestyle amounts such as a cup of coffee a month (instead of saying £2/month) towards your university’s Makerble Bundle of projects.
3. The charities running those projects will publish updates about the progress and impact. Those impacts appear on your Makerble Bundle Timeline and on the Timelines of the students who donate.
ii. Your RAG’s End Of Year Bundle
1. Your RAG raises money the way it normally does and then at the end of the year decides how much money to give to each charity.
2. Your chosen charities then post details of the projects that will be receiving the money on your Makerble Bundle.
3. As those projects create impact the charities post updates and those then appear on your RAG’s Makerble Bundle.
And also use it to celebrate at the end of the year!
