interpret, and remember what I’ve heard or read.
I’m interested in journalism, poetry, storytelling, debate,
speaking, writing, or editing.
I like creating new linguistic forms or original works of writing or
oral communication
(strategies: have students speaking, debating, expressing
opinions, and asking questions)
Logi

al
I’m familiar with the concepts of quantity, time, and cause and
effect. I’m good at reasoning and logical problem solving.
I like posing and testing hypotheses, collecting data and critical
thinking
(strategies: graphing, analogies, probability theory, and
questioning strategies)
Visu
al-S
patia
l I learn by seeing and observing. I recognize faces, objects,
shapes, colours, details, and scenes.
(strategies: charts, outlines, mind mapping, highlighting with
colour, and visuals to accompany lectures. Visual learners are
also very responsive to their physical environment; therefore,
the appearance of classrooms is important.)
I perceive and produce mental imagery, think in pictures, and
visualize detail. I use visual images as an aid in recalling
information.
I’m good at creating and decoding graphs, charts, maps, and
diagrams.
Bod

etic
I learn best by direct involvement and participation in concrete
learning experiences. I remember most clearly what was done,
rather than what was said or observed.
(strategies: field trips, team work, building models, interviewing
people, working on projects, and role-play are just a few of the
ways students can be actively engaged in subject matter.)
I’m good at using my body to express ideas and feelings and to
solve problems, acting and dancing and I have balance, grace,
dexterity, and precision in physical tasks.
I like combining physical actions/body movements with linguistic
responses to express ideas, accomplish tasks, create moods
and using dialogue simultaneously with role play
Mus
ical
I respond to music kinaesthetically by conducting, performing,
creating, or dancing; emotionally through responding to the
moods and tempos of music; intellectually through discussing
and analyzing music; and/or aesthetically by evaluating and
exploring the content and meaning of music.
(strategies: music played in the classroom can help create a
positive emotional environment for learning, as well as a
welcoming atmosphere. It can heighten the suspense, frivolity,
or tragedy of a piece of literature being read.)
I can recognize rhythm, rhyme, pitch, and melody. I learn best through songs, patterns, rhythms and musical
representations.
Inte

sona
l I like interacting with others to accomplish tasks and learn best
in groups or with a partner. I have skills in mediation and
organizing others for a common cause.
(strategies: collaborative learning experiences, interaction with

multicultural issues, examining topics from a global perspective,
opportunities for expressing their interactive intelligence)
I’m good at understanding another person's feelings, thoughts,
motivations, behaviours and intentions and responding
effectively
I learn while I’m speaking to others in an “authentic” setting. I
develop English speaking skills while reacting to others.

thoughts
(strategies: journal-writing, self-esteem activities, goal setting,
feelings inventories, and self-directed learning.)

Coimbra, 27th April 2012 Invictus
The film Invictus tells the inspiring true story of how
Nelson Mandela joined forces with the captain of
South Africa's rugby team to help unite their country.
President Mandela knows his nation remains racially
and economically divided in the wake of apartheid.
Believing he can bring his people together through
the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies
South Africa's rugby team as they make their historic
run to the 1995 Rugby World Cup Championship
match.
Look at the picture.
Who are those people?
Where are they?
What are they saying? In pairs, write the dialogue they are having in this scene. (10-15 lines)
End with “Do you hear it? Listen to your country. This is it! This is our destiny!”

Nelson Mandela was a militant anti-apartheid activist. In 1962 he was arrested and convicted of
sabotage and other charges. He served 27 years in prison. Following his release from prison in 1990,
Mandela led his party in the negotiations that led to democracy in 1994. As president, he frequently
gave priority to reconciliation, while introducing policies aimed at combating poverty and inequality in
South Africa. For being such an active defender of human rights, Mandela has received more than 250
awards over four decades, including the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize.
How much do you know about the apartheid in South Africa, Nelson Mandela and the Human
Rights? Research some information about this and find a creative way to present it to your
classmates.

Unfair,
by Gareth Owen
They say I’ve got my father’s nose
They say I’ve got his walk
And there’s something about my granddad
In the serious way I talk.
“And aren’t his legs just like our Jack’s,”
Says smiling Auntie Rose
“He could bend them just like that
And touch his head with his toes.”
I’ve got Auntie Julia’s funny laugh
I’ve got sister Betty’s lips
And just like Sid on my mother’s side
I’m fond of fish and chips.
I have moods that remind them of Auntie Vi
And my hair’s just like their Paul
Sometimes when I look in the mirror
I wonder if I’m me at all.
But what I ask myself is this –
Why does it have to be
That it’s me who looks like them and not
Them that looks like me.

Coimbra, 27th April 2012 Manic Monday
Manic Monday,
by The Bangles
Six o'clock already
And I’m just in the middle of a dream
I was kissing Valentino
By a crystal blue Italian stream
And now I’m late
So I guess I just won't get paid
These are the days
When you wish your bed was already made
It's just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
'Cause that's my fun day
My “I-don't-have-to-run” day
It's just another manic Monday
Have to catch an early train
Have to be at work by nine
And if I had an airplane
I still couldn't make it on time
'Cause it takes me so long
Just to figure out what I'm gonna wear
I blame it on the train
But the boss is already there
Find evidence of the following:
1. The woman was dreaming she was kissing a man. ……………………………………………………...
2. She loves Sundays. ……………………………………………………………………………………...
3. She usually doesn’t get to work on time. ………………………………………………………………..
4. She takes a long time to choose her clothes. ……………………………………………………………
