Every Day

2015 - 2016

The Mission of the Lower Moreland Township School District

is to foster individual excellence in a nurturing environment by integrating

a dedicated staff, an innovative curriculum, and community resources, while

promoting respect for self and others.

All students will acquire the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes necessary to

become life-long learners and citizens who will think critically, act responsibly,

communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively in a global community.

The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential...

These are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.

Board of School Directors

The Board of School Directors is elected by the citizens. Pennsylvania’s public

school board members represent their communities’ beliefs and values when making decisions

about the operation of school districts. These community representatives give of their time and

talent without compensation to provide a high-quality educational program.

The nine members of the school board are advocates of public education. They seek to ensure that

the standards of achievement are met, preparing children to be productive members of society.

Our BeliefsWe believe

that it is our responsibility to provide every student with the opportunity to achieve his or her full potential.

We believe that our professional staff is passionate about facilitating and celebrating student success.

We believe our schools and community must provide a safe, nurturing environment where self respect and respect for others prevail.

We believe in a balanced, diverse, well-rounded, and challenging curriculum that:

• Emphasizes active learning; • Addresses the varying needs of all students; • Promotes critical thinking and problem-solving; • Encourages positive choices and healthy living.

We believe in extending students’ academic, leadership, and inter-personal experiences through enrichment and extra-curricular activities.

We believe that the ultimate goals of the school experience are to cultivate a love of learning along with the tools and skills necessary to enable students to be successful in an ever-changing world.

We believe it is our responsibility to engender a sense of citizenship that recognizes the needs of others and leads students to become productive and contributing members of society.

Important Information

Transportation Services • 215-938-0270

The district provides school bus services for students through a private transportation company, First Student. Drivers are carefully selected and trained according to the PA Department of Transportation standards. Students are under the direct supervision of the bus driver.

Licensed high school students may drive to school with permission --school and parents.

Special Education • 215-938-7426

• Screening and Evaluation to determine eligibility • No cost to parents• A written request must be submitted to the Director of Special Education• Call for more information

Guidance Department • 215-938-0114

The Guidance Department seeks to assist each child in achieving his or her potential. Individual counseling is available at all levels. Group guidance sessions are conducted in such areas as decision making, peer relations, course selection and college admissions.

A district-wide testing program is administered by the department and provides a continuous record of each child’s progress through 12 years of schooling in comparison with the local and national norms. These tests assist teachers and counselors in evaluating student strengths and weaknesses and assist with course selection and long range educational and career planning.

School Policies

Students, by law, must attend school regularly. Each absence requires a valid note from a parent or guardian. Students arriving late to school must have a valid note explaining the lateness.

There is a written Code of Conduct that provides a framework for the orderly operation of schools. It is distributed to all high school students and age appropriate materials are given to the lower grades.

The use of tobacco, alcohol and other controlled substances are prohibited throughout the district. Electronic devices brought to school shall be restricted to classroom or instructional-related activities and/or in approved locations under the supervision of professional staff. All use will be in line with the expectations set forth in the Student Code of Conduct and the Acceptable Use policy. The Board expressly prohibits use of electronic devices in locker rooms, bathrooms, health suites and other changing areas. Students shall comply with the guidelines set by the classroom teacher or school officials for the educational use of electronic devices while on school property or while engaged in a school-sponsored activity.

Working papers applications can be obtained from the attendance office during the school year and in the guidance office during the summer.

in Education

The Foundation for Lower Moreland Schools is a non-profit, public-

private partnership dedicated to improving the future of public

education in the Lower Moreland Township School District. The

Foundation’s mission is to secure private funds in support of innovative

programming and curriculum enhancements.

The Foundation for Lower Moreland Schools Board of Directors is made

up of educational, business, and community leaders who selflessly give

of their time and talent to make the Foundation, and this community,

stronger.

The funds are used to provide Innovative Classroom Grants. The

Allocation Committee, chaired by the Superintendent, is responsible

for reviewing all grant applications. Innovation classroom grants are in

the range of $250 to $500 and are given out twice a year.

For more information about the Foundation visit the website. You

can make an individual contribution and/or support foundation

fundraising events.
