One in the LordUno en el SeñorDear People and Friends of San Juan Bautista,
Christ is Risen; Truly Heis Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!For this Seventh Sunday ofEaster, the Church chooses aportion from the High PriestlyPrayer of Jesus in the Gospelof John. In it, the night beforehis saving death, the Lordprays:"Holy Father, I pray notonly for them, but also forthose who will believe in
me through their word, so that they may all beone, as you, Father, are in me and I in you,that they also may be in us, that the world maybelieve that you sent me.”
This prayer, at the climatic moment—the PaschalMystery— of Jesus’ mission, highlights the desired fruitsof Jesus’ death and resurrection, namely our personal faithin Jesus Christ, unity among disciples, communion withGod, and faith by the whole world. What a powerful prayerfor the efficaciousness of Jesus’ self-giving sacrifice!
Earlier in this chapter, the Lord describes eternal life:“Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, theonly true God, and the one whom you sent, JesusChrist.” (John 17: 3) Faith in Jesus Christ is essential,for Jesus enables us to know, both on an intellectual leveland on a relational level, both the Father and the Son.Heaven and eternal life are described in terms of ourRELATIONSHIP with God. This corresponds to the truththat God created us to be relational beings—to be lovedand to love, for the LORD God is the primary RelationalBeing, in whose image we have been created.
Further, in proclaiming that “I am the Way, the Truthand the Life,” Jesus reveals that He is the means of havingthis relationship of love with Almighty God. Two Sundaysago, the Lord spelled out how we are to live in this lovingrelationship —by keeping his new commandment of lovingothers as we are loved sacrificially by Christ. In living thisnew commandment, we live and experience another fruitfor which the Lord prayed—“that they may all be one, asyou, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may bein us.”
As we follow our Good Shepherd, transformed by hislove for us, we joyfully and boldly desire to share him—and thus share eternal life—with everyone we meet. Jesusprayed for this: “that the world may believe that you sentme.” Thus, we cooperate with bringing Jesus’ prayer tofulfillment the more and more we help others becomedisciples of the Lord.

Cristo ha resucitado; ¡En verdad haresucitado! ¡Aleluya! ¡Aleluya! EsteSéptimo Domingo de Pascua, la Iglesiaelige una parte de la oración sacerdotal deJesús en el Evangelio de Juan. En ella, lanoche antes de su muerte salvadora, elSeñor ora:
“Padre, no solo te pido por misdiscípulos, sino también por los quevan a creer en mi por la palabra deellos, para que todos sean uno,como tu, Padre, en mi y yo en tisomos uno, a fin de que sean uno en nosotrosy el mundo crea que tu me has enviado.”
Esta oración, en el momento climático—el MisterioPascual— de la misión de Jesús, resalta los frutos deseadosde la muerte y resurrección de Jesús, es decir, nuestra fepersonal en Jesucristo, la unidad entre los discípulos, lacomunión con Dios y la fe en todo el mundo. ¡Quépoderosa oración para la eficacia del sacrificio de entregade Jesús!
Anteriormente en este capítulo, el Señor describe lavida eterna. “Y esta es la vida eterna: conocerte a ti, únicoDios Verdadero, y al que tu has envidado, Jesús, elCristo.” (Juan 17:3) La fe en Jesucristo es esencial,porque Jesús nos permite saber, tanto a nivel intelectualcomo a nivel relacional, el Padre como el Hijo. El cielo y lavida eterna se describen en términos de nuestraRELACION con Dios. Esto corresponde a la verdad de queDios nos creó para ser seres racionales, para ser amados ypara amar, porque el SEÑOR Dios es el Ser Primordial, acuya imagen hemos sido creados.
Además, al proclamar que “Yo soy el Camino, laVerdad y la Vida”, Jesús revela que Él es el medio paratener esta relación de amor con el Dios Todopoderoso.Hace dos domingos, el Señor explicó cómo debemos viviren esta relación amorosa, al guardar su nuevo mandamientode amar a los demás como somos amados en sacrificio porCristo. Al vivir este nuevo mandamiento, vivimos yexperimentamos otro fruto por el cual el Señor oró—“quetodos sean uno, como tu, Padre, estas en mi y yo en ti.Que ellos también sean uno en nosotros.”
A medida que seguimos a nuestro Buen Pastor,transformado por su amor por nosotros, deseamos conalegría y audacia compartirlo, y así compartir la vidaeterna, con todos los que conocemos. Jesús oró por esto:“para que el mundo crea que tu me has enviado.” Por lotanto, cooperamos para que la oración de Jesús se cumpla,cada vez más ayudamos a los demás a ser discípulos delSeñor.

Please remember that the most important gift you can giveyour child after the gift of life is the gift of God's love and gracein the Sacrament of Baptism. Please do not wait months or ayear or two to baptize your child. Baptism should be celebratedwithin weeks of your baby's birth. To prepare parents andgodparents, the parish provides 2 separate classes. The nextclass Session I will be June 8th . These classes may beattended even before the baby is born. LEGION OF MARY ANNUAL SUMMER PICNIC
Will be held at St. Leo's on Saturday, June 22nd at12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM. in Rooms 3 and 4. AllMembers and Auxiliary Members of the Legion of Marychapters in the Lancaster Area are invited. The Picnic willopen with the Rosary and our Legion prayers followed bya luncheon which is provided at no cost. It is an excellentopportunity to revisit with active and praying membersfrom a number of parishes in the area and to see first handwhat the Legion has been doing in the local communities.Please mark your calendars and enjoy a few hours ofprayer and fellowship.
