Sunshine Motorway Upgrade Pacific Paradise Interchange & Bypass October 2007 Safety around roadworks The safety of motorists and our workers is very important to us. When you are travelling through the work zone we encourage you to proceed with care. Keep the following tips in mind: Be patient and take extra care Look for roadwork signs Don’t be distracted by roadworks Slow down in bad weather Leave a little earlier as there may be delays Don’t follow too closely Observe all road rules The construction contractors are making every effort to keep the local community safe. Your cooperation to exercise care while driving through the work area would be greatly appreciated. Work begins on the bypass Work on the new Pacific Paradise interchange and bypass is now underway. This $85 million project involves the construction of a new interchange and northern bypass of Pacific Paradise linking the Sunshine Motorway to David Low Way and the Sunshine Coast Airport. The existing David Low Way interchange will also be upgraded to allow duplication of the motorway north to the new interchange. The bypass will result in reduced congestion on David Low Way at Pacific Paradise and improved access to the Sunshine Coast Airport. Preliminary works (pictured above) are well advanced and are expected to be completed in early November 2007. This involves construction of approach embankments to the new interchange and will provide settlement of soft foundations. On 14 September 2007, Bellero/ARK Joint Venture was awarded the construction contract to build four interchange bridges – two at David Low Way to allow for duplication of the motorway and two at the new interchange. Bridgework is scheduled to start in November this year with completion expected in late 2008. Construction of the roadwork component of the bypass is due to start before Christmas this year with completion expected by the end of 2008. Construction hours Working hours will generally be between 7.00am and 5.00pm, six days a week. If night work is required, local residents will be advised through letterbox drops and notifications in the local press.
