What Kind Of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Product And Why?

WHSmith● sells lots of different types of music

magazine in stores and online● fair amount of metal magazines - open to the

genre● offers subscriptions online to magazines -

would bring in more readers and profit

WHSmith - websitephoto of cover will attract readers -

● familiar logo● latest cover advertised - gives reader idea of what they are paying for● gives first-time buyers a good idea of what they are about to buy● preview of cover gives first-time buyers a chance to judge whether they think they will like the

mag or not based on the appearance

WHSmith - websiteoffers of saving money and cheap subscriptions would attract my target audience (students/teenagers/not earning a lot)

website is simple and easy to navigate around

WHSmith - websiteoption of international pricing means that my magazine could reach metal fans outside of Britain - larger audience

use of website is easy for teenagers as they are used to using the internet - appeals to my target audience

WHSmith - store● smaller selection of metal mags than website,

but still largely available in the bigger stores● do not offer subscriptions● teens may not want to shop in WHSmiths

because it is considered an ‘old people’s shop’

● internet shopping is easier for teens

Tesco - website● only mag sold on Tesco website was a

golfing one and it was out of stock● Tesco website would be bad for selling

my mag - target audience would not look there because they are not old enough to need to do weekly shops online

● obviously not open to any music mags - bad for selling my mag

Tesco - store● even in large stores only a small selection of

metal music mags are supplied● metal music mags rarely sold in smaller

stores/express stores/petrol station stores● however, teens may be able to request their

parents to buy it for them on the weekly shop, effortless for teens - attractive

Barnes & Noble - website● do not sell any metal mags● only sell mags teaching how

to play music etc, and ones that would only appeal to older audience

● obviously not open to ‘younger’ music mags, especially not of a metal genre

EMAP - websiteQuote from EMAP website:

● good for getting the magazine to connect with audience

● good for getting the mag to reach all different types of audiences around the world

EMAP - website● my mag is targeted

at promoting small, local bands so may not be commercial enough to be able to afford advertising through EMAP

EMAP - website

● music mag could be advertised on music radio stations owned by EMAP

● however, contemporary music station would not advertise metal mag

Bauer Media - website● reaches large audience - good for getting

more readers● offers 300 mags to 15 countries - reaches

multi-national audience● offers mag subscriptions - will attract a

larger audience

Bauer Media - website● own at least 2

rock/metal radio stations that my mag could be advertised on

● would reach target population easily
