What have you learned from your audience

feedback?

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

In order to create a successful campaign audience feedback from our potential target audience is essential. Firstly, the audience is vital when creating a film campaign as they are who we are trying to impress; without them there would be no product at all. Throughout the process the more we involved our audience the more we knew our product would be a success.

During our research and planning we created a questionnaire in order to get a sense of who we were trying to address. The questions consisted of what's your favourite film genre? How often to go to the cinema? Where do you usually watch trailers? What social networking sites do you use? Do you prefer theatrical or a teaser trailers? Only to name a few. These questions were answered by 25 people which allowed us to make generalizations about our sample to the rest of the population. Having doing this primary research it gave us an insight to what kind of audience we should aim to address and what kind of trailer the majority of our focus group really wanted.

We created an online survey on Google Docs as this was very efficient and quick to make. By making our questionnaire on Google Docs it allowed us to publish the URL onto Facebook, where most of our target audience spend their free time in addition to giving us more of a chance of getting back reliable data, as more people are likely to answer.

From our audience research questionnaire that we published on Facebook, we received very constructive feedback. Most of our target audience visit the cinema as often as three times a month, this will therefore mean that we would in fact distribute our product to various cinemas in order for us to make a large profit. To add, most of our chose a thriller as their favourite genre and closely behind was a British social realism.

We then, as a group decided to merge the two together so both us and our target audience were indeed satisfied. Over 50% of our target audience watched the trailers on YouTube, in which we hope to post it up on. In addition, almost all our potential target audience felt teaser trailers are definitely important as this allows the audience to see things the trailer that would therefore excite them and allow them to definitely watch the upcoming film. Finally, 80% of our target market use the social network site Facebook, which gave us the knowledge and understanding that whenever we would post our trailer, magazine, film poster or any other main ideas involving the target audience

In addition, the post production part of our campaign a few problems did arise. As a group we came into quite a few disagreements as we all have such large personalities however getting the target audience involved in our work really did help us overcome this. We couldn't decide on various things from what colour font we should have to what our film should be called 'Baby Girl' or 'Runaway Love' so we asked our focus group.

Having listened to our focus group we then settled on the name 'Runaway Love' as 4/4 enjoyed it.

Feedback from our target audience is also crucial as they are the ones we are trying to please; we can not simply assume they would like it, so because most of our demographic are logged on social networking sites mostly 3/4 of the time they are awake; we uploaded our film magazine and film poster on twitter to get their views on this. We therefore tweeted our followers the link to the main image however only a few people (10) responded to this tweet giving us all positive feedback such as "it looks professional" however, as a group we felt that this feedback wasn't that effective as we didn't have any negative comments or any improvements we could of made in addition to the number of responses we were given, ten isn't enough so we decided as a group to post our film poster on Facebook.

Meanwhile, after posting our film poster on Facebook, we received over 20 likes which shows us that our potential target audience therefore we pleased with what we had produced. The comments we received were very constructive, positive, some negative and also some improvements. The positive comments we received were "I would love for this to come out in the cinema" "it looks very clear, simple like most British social realist film posters and the consistent use of colours goes really well, job well done!" It is clear from our responses that our audience fell in love with our poster however, there is always room for improvement, for example we did also receive some negative comments such as how the male character laced at the top of the poster is very unnecessary as he wasn't playing a significant role in the film and therefore showed too much of a narrative.

To add, one comment we received was very analytical and said we had misspelt production wrong, after we receiving this comment we quickly changed the word. As a group we decided to change various things, acting upon our audience research for example we decided to take the male character out of the poster. In addition, we decided to change the transparency of the female character to make it look more professional and this shows the audience that she in this kind of lifestyle of sex, money and drugs and cannot get out as it's part of her. On the next slide, I have included our final film poster alongside comments from our audience feedback from Facebook with our previous film poster.

One in every nine people on Earth is on Facebook with people spending over 700 billion minutes on it per month and many of them being between the age of 18-29 years (below image of age statistics). Having acting upon this research we decided to upload our teaser trailer onto Facebook.

We finally uploaded our first draft of the 'Runaway Love' teaser trailer on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter in order to get responses from numerous amounts of people as this would allow us to make generalizations of the sample. However, most of our feedback consisted of comments and likes on Facebook, as most of our target audience use that more compared to YouTube or Twitter. We received various amounts of comments, good and bad from our target audience. Firstly, the negatives:

● the music was either too high or too low● the narrative wasn't quite clear● some of the effects looked unprofessional

In order to create and fulfil the audience's need and gratification we therefore changed a number of aspects in our scene.

● we found new music to go well with our trailer, more fast pace and eery which is present in many British social realism trailers

● First, the narrative needed to be reordered - initially we had put the scene of her taking the tape out of television at the beginning, this didn't work well as the audience didn't quite understand what we were trying to achieve and we therefore rearranged this

● we edited on final cut pro the effects and blurs to make it look more professional and therefore went on YouTube for tutorials in order to produce a successful product.

Overall, we received some positive feedback from posting it on Facebook however, once we played our trailer to our focus group we received the below comments.

"I don't quite understand the

narrative of it"

"The music is kinda weird, it

changes when the little girl is

told she is getting put into

care"

"The shot types correspond well with the your genre,

a British social realism, am I correct?"

"It reminds me of 4.3.2.1"

"It looks really cool"

"The storyline is really good"

As we can see from our responses that our focus group really enjoyed our trailer even due to the minor aspects that were wrong with it. Below is a link of our first draft of our trailer and beside it is our final trailer.
