programming you need, whether you’re looking

for a job, starting a small business, trying a new

hobby, or pursuing a degree. From online tools to

in-person training, there’s something for everyone

at the library. September is Library Card Sign-Up

SEPTEMBER 23-29

Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating

the freedom to read. Banned Books Week was

launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in

the number of challenges to books in schools,

bookstores and libraries and highlights the value of

free and open access to information. Banned Books

Week brings together the entire book community —

librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists,

teachers, and readers of all types — in shared

support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas,

even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.

JOIN A BOOK GROUP

Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough

David and Adele seem like the ideal

pair. He's a successful psychiatrist, she

is his picture-perfect wife who adores

him. As Louise, David's new secretary,

is drawn into their orbit, she uncovers

more puzzling questions than answers.

The only thing that is crystal clear is that

something in this marriage is very, very wrong. But

Louise can't guess how wrong--and how far a person

might go to protect their marriage's secrets.

Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly

Before John Glenn orbited the earth,

or Neil Armstrong walked on the moon,

a group of dedicated female

mathematicians known as “human

computers” used pencils, slide rules

and adding machines to calculate the

numbers that would launch rockets,

and astronauts, into space. Hidden Figures is the

phenomenal true story of the black female

mathematicians at NASA whose calculations

helped fuel some of America’s greatest achievements

in space. ~Amazon

The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom

In 1790, Lavinia, a seven-year-old Irish

orphan with no memory of her past,

arrives on a tobacco plantation where

she is put to work as an indentured

servant with the kitchen house slaves.

Though she becomes deeply bonded to

her new family, Lavinia is also slowly

accepted into the world of the big house, where the

master is absent and the mistress battles addiction.

As time passes she finds herself perilously straddling

two very different worlds and when loyalties are

brought into question, dangerous truths are laid bare

and lives are at risk. ~Goodreads.com

IMAGINATION LIBRARY

10 YEARS OF BOOK

DELIVERY IN

DEARBORN COUNTY

It was late 2007, and Dianna Wissinger was at the

helm of the Hoosier Hills Literacy League. She heard

about this great program, and was determined to

bring it to the children in Dearborn County.

Though Dianna is no longer in the area, she

remembers the program fondly. “When I heard about

the program from a colleague, it was a no-brainer, as

long as we could get the funding. It was always a

treat to be recognized in the community by an Imagi-

nation Library family. The parents and the children

were always so grateful for the monthly gift of such a

quality book.”

Since that time, the Dearborn County Imagination

Library has provided for over 2200 children to receive

new, age-appropriate books delivered directly to their

homes. A total of 75,276 books have been delivered

to date!

The steady support of the Lawrenceburg Public

Library Resources and Services Foundation has been

vital to keeping the program running.

Though we’ve had a monthly enrollment as high as

880 children in the past, our current enrollment is

limited to 300 children.
