Veterans Day Parade in commemoration of Armistice Day, separated from the first parade by about 3 minutes, 300 yards, and a police escort. Boston's first Veterans Day Parade, kicks off at 12 noon on Novem-ber 11 at the corner of Boylston and Tremont Streets. The second Veterans Day Parade, known as the Veter-ans for Peace Parade, follows right behind the first parade to honor and celebrate the original intention for Armistice Day - a Day of Peace. Both parades march around Boston Common along Boylston and Tremont Streets, and on to City Hall Plaza and the front of Faneuil Hall next to the statue of American Revolu-tion patriot Samuel Adams, where you can hear a vari-ety of speeches, anti-war poetry readings, and music.

Veterans Day Parades Veterans Day events in Boston pay tribute to veterans, and to Boston's military history and fight for freedom. The holi-day marks the anniversary of the November 11, 1918 signing of the Armistice, the agreement to end the fighting during World War I, once called the "war to end all wars." Veterans Day is always observed on the Armistice anniversary, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls. Why two parades? Some groups marching in the official Boston Veterans Day Parade didn't want Veterans for Peace, a group founded in 1985 to increase awareness about the price society pays to fight wars, to participate in their parade. So every year, Veterans for Peace marches in a second

Brickbottom Open Studios The Brickbottom Artists Association will host its 32nd Open Studios(one of the oldest open studio events in Somerville) on November 23 and 24, 2019 from 12pm to 6pm at Brickbottom Artists Building. The artists will open their live-work studios to the public, showing and selling work in a wide variety of media and formats. A block away, many Joy Street Studios artists will open their doors as well. A number of artists in both buildings will demo their methods and working techniques throughout the weekend. These are great opportunities to talk with real working artists and to start or grow an art collection. Open

Studios and all related enter-tainment are free to attend; art to go, and snacks, available for purchase! The Brickbottom buildings are wheelchair acces-sible. The location is a 10-minute walk from Lechmere Green Line T. Station, and there’s ample free street park-ing on Chestnut and Linwood Streets.

Veterans Day Cruise to Georges Island Honor veterans and active military personnel with a special cruise highlighting the military history of the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park. Enjoy a narrated boat ride to Georges Island followed by guided tours of historic Fort Warren, reflections on service, and fun activities for all ages. Ferry is passage free of charge for veterans and military and up to 3 family members. For free veteran tickets call Boston Harbor Cruises at 617-227-4321. Visit the Historic Gibson House Museum Completed in 1860, the Gibson House stands virtually un-touched as a historic house museum in Back Bay. A unique and unspoiled single-family residence, it retains its kitchen, scullery, butler’s pantry, and water closets, as well as formal

rooms and private quarters. Designed in the Italian Renais-sance style by noted Boston architect Edward Clarke Cabot, the house is built of brownstone and red brick. The interiors are filled with the Gibsons' original furnish-ings -- elegant wallpapers, imported carpets, an abun-dance of furniture, paintings, sculpture, photographs, silver, porcelain, curios, and other nineteenth-century family heir-looms. Visitors enjoy a glimpse into the lives of a well-to-do Boston family and its domestic staff. Visits are by guided tour only, Wednesday–Sunday. Tours begin promptly at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 pm.
