I hope 2016 was successful for each and every one of you, however you chose to define success. I want to begin by expressing my gratitude and appreciation for the Board of Di- rectors in all their accomplishments in 2016. Led by President, Ben Simiskey, the Board worked hard in addressing both challenging and fundamental issues that we believe will enhance the value of your membership within this organization. I can’t stress how impressed I am with the amount the Board accomplished in such a short period of volunteered time, especially given the shallow breadth of our human capital. Thank you. As we move into 2017, I can say with a high degree of confidence, that the current Houston Board of Directors is one of the most uniquely designed groups within FPA National. As of this writing, 64% of our Board are NexGen! Add to that a clear vision of what they want their organization to look like, and I can’t help but wonder what our chapter will be in fifteen years, let alone the next three. In order for us to get there, we’ve devised a 2020 Vision which includes three main focuses: 1. Building future leaders 2. Building communities with engaged members, and 3. Investing in healthy, long-term corporate partnerships We believe that by focusing our time and energy in these three areas, the rest will fall into place once atop a solid foundation. Now if you didn’t see this last paragraph coming, you haven’t been a member for very long. Instead of asking you to volunteer (in any capacity you can, and preferably in an area of interest or pas- sion), I’d like to instead pose the following ridiculous statements: We can continue to do this alone. We don’t need your help. I plan to retire a Board member. My girlfriend likes it when I talk about FPA. I owe my career, my professional relationships, and my self-development to this organization. I en- courage each and every one of you to challenge yourselves and join in. At the very least, we’re open to all sincere ideas in the areas in which you believe need improvement. Sincerely, Adam Frinsco, CFP®, CMT 2017 FPA Houston President

FPA is excited to provide CFP® Professional members with the the newly redesigned and re-engineered FPA PlannerSearch®.

What is FPA PlannerSearch®?FPA PlannerSearch® is a website that not only provides educational content to consumers on personal financial matters, but alsohelps them find and engage CFP® professionals in their area. Through robust search functionality, consumers who are looking forfinancial planning guidance and support can search for CFP® professionals who can help. What role does FPA PlannerSearch® play for me?The site was constructed to increase the online visibility of CFP® professionals who are also members of FPA. By using bestpractices in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), social sharing, and structured data, the site increases the likelihood of CFP®members of FPA being found online through Google searches. By way of this increased visibility new business opportunities mayemerge.Who is able to participate in FPA PlannerSearch®?In order to participate, you must be an FPA member in good standing and a CFP® professional. Members are not automaticallyadded to the platform, they must opt in. To opt in, please contact the FPA Member Engagement Team [email protected]. You can also opt-in online by visiting www.onefpa.org/business-success/Pages/PlannerSearch.

Why has the platform been changed/improved?In an increasingly competitive digital landscape, CFP® professionals need to be able to be found online. The changes we havemade to the architecture of the site and search functionality will now better support our members by providing more visibility onlinewhich will lead to new business growth opportunities. What, specifically, has been done to improve the platform? As we set out on redeveloping the site and search tool, we did so with three distinct goals:First was to increase planner findability. The new website’s foundation is built from the perspective of traffic acquisition. Best prac-tices of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), social sharing, and structured data will drive the architecture of the website so mem-bers can be found more often and in more places across the web.Second was to improve usability. User experience is paramount to findability and engagement. Consumers will enjoy a stream-lined experience and be able to easily accomplish their goal of researching, contacting, and partnering with a financial plannerthat meets their unique individual needs.Third was to expand accessibility. Users seeking to find a financial planner from their desktop, tablet, or smartphone will be treat-ed to a seamless user experience at their convenience. This will drive increased traffic, interactions, client leads and – ultimately –help members grow their businesses. What are some of the new features? There are a couple new features that you should definitely pay attention to:

· Now every planner has a unique URL path to their profile on FPA PlannerSearch®. That means you can share your pro-file on the site with anyone by simply providing the URL. It is advisable to provide a link to your profile on your website, blog, and any other way you can be found online.

· Your profile now has a “My Links” section where you can share other places where you are found online. You can sharelinks to recent media appearances, news items where you appear, personal blog posts, and much more. This section inparticular is very important to helping drive SEO for your profile so be sure to keep it up to date with your latest links!

· Your profile also has a “Brochures” section where you can provide brochures and other content specific to your business.

· Also, when a consumer searches for a planner, they will be provided an interactive map where they can view CFP® pro-fessionals within proximity to them. So just because someone may be viewing another planner from your immediate ar-ea, they will now be able to quickly check out your profile as well.

As always, you can get assistance by contacting a member of the FPA Member Engagement Team [email protected].
