Maybe you weren’t the best fit for the job, or you discovered you just couldn’t perform to expectations. Maybe you just didn’t LIKE the work, or feared getting fired. So what do you need to get a job you like, can perform, and at which you will succeed?

They work alongside those without disabilities, not in a sheltered environment with only their peers. Employment Facilitators meet with businesses that can offer job matches to members, finding work that is based on their strengths.

Bridgehaven Center for Peer ExcellenceCertification of Peer Specialists enhances mental health staffs statewide

The Bridgehaven Center for Peer Excellence will host three additional Adult Peer Support Specialist trainings in March, May and July at Hotel Louisville. Bridgehaven graduate and acclaimed instructor Molly Clouse develops the Peer Specialists: individuals with mental illness, who are leading productive lives and teaches them to share their experiences with and give hope to those who are struggling.

Trainer Molly Clouse says, “We had around 30 candidates in the first two sessions. They were very successful, and we look forward to the next three.”

Past trainings have produced a number of extremely qualified individuals in Bridgehaven’s PSS group: an attorney, one with two Master’s degrees, and another with a teaching degree; the wealth of their experience in recovery adds a great deal to the program. YOUR support of Bridgehaven makes it possible to provide this training to future classes!

Weekly hotel rates are available, and the training includes all materials, lunch and testing. The cost is $350 per person, with limited scholarships. Dates are March 14-18, May 9-13, and July 11-15. Deadline for registration is the Monday prior to the start of training. Please submit your application to:

Bridge Builder Breakfast a Smash!“Leading with Heart”... and that’s what you did!

What an extraordinary event we had on December 2nd at Mellwood Arts Center! Thanks to all who attended: over 500 attendees and over $100,000 raised!

Peer Specialist Michael Kapfhammer and member Lynn N. shared their personal experiences, and Board member Scott Gloecker spoke eloquently about Bridgehaven and his passion for our mission.

THANK YOU for giving these remarkable individuals with severe mental illness a lifeline by supporting us and increasing awareness of Bridgehaven. Now we invite you to our Bridge Builder Luncheons, held the second Wednesday of the month from 12-1:00pm. Bring a friend and learn more about us. Our results speak for themselves. It’s as easy as contacting Leslie at [email protected] or calling 585-9462 to make a free reservation!

Aidan Rose Crosses the Rainbow BridgeCommunity heartbroken over loss of Pet Therapist

Aidan Rose departed this earth on January 5, 2016, just short of her 10th birthday. Aidan fought hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive cancer, and outlived all expectations. She came to us at eight weeks, and never missed a day of work, even after recent surgery. One member was confident that she was greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by Tyler, Caesar and Cleo, the canine and feline Pet Therapists who once shared offices with Aidan at Bridgehaven. Veterinarian Michele Zehnder lovingly escorted Aidan through her transition.

On her last day at work, Aidan received a steady stream of members saying goodbye. David P. has long been a caretaker of the animals who comfort our members. “It’s tough to lose one of our Pet Therapists, and this is the second one within a year. Aidan has been a huge part of our lives for a long time.” Staff member Jim Isenberg added, “She’s saved many lives, including mine. This is hard. This is really, really hard.”

Aidan leaves behind her mom, Arti Ortega, brother Scout, and her entire Bridgehaven family, including her pupils Harley and Quinn, the recently-arrived Pet Therapist Kittens.

After a memorial service on February 5th (near her 10th birthday), Aidan’s ashes will be interred in Bridgehaven’s Memorial Garden. A marker will bear testament to her life’s work of serving, loving and comforting her charges. We love you, Aidan. Thank you for all your years of unconditional love.
