Committee Updates by Usha Bhushan

A committee meeting was held before the

police booth inauguration on February 23,

2014. Immediate Past President N. R.

Kumaraswamy reported that the street lights

for our colony have been sanctioned for all 13

avenues and work is well underway. In fact,

cables are being laid for 1st-4th Avenues

already.

For those non-resident members who haven’t

visited recently, you may be shocked to see

the state of the roads. Do not fear, however.

The Metro Water has come to town and are

installing water and sewage pipes. If the Metro

Water decides to connect Seashore Town

separately and not wait for the pipes to be

laid in Uthandi and Akkarai, then our colony

may be connected to the main line as soon as

June 2014.

In the mean time, please be vigilant when the

Metro Water workers are re-filling the roads

with sand after constructing manholes and

laying pipes near your home. Gently request

them to evenly distribute the sand so that it is

easier for you and your neighbours to drive

up and down the road.

Spring is in the air and summer is around the

corner. If you have any electricity concerns,

please report them so we can bring them to

the TNEB’s attention. However, several

transformers were installed in 2013 and we

expect the power supply to be much better.

Treasurer O J Mathew reported

approximately Rs 70,000 was still outstanding

in subscription fees. Please note the financial

year came to an end on March 31st and the

Association is now collecting membership fees

for the year 2014-2015 (i.e. Rs 1,200 for plot

owners and tenants and Rs 2,400 for home

owners).

We co-opted Mr. Siddique as a new board

member and Mr. R. P. Srinivasan, who is

serving a second term. We are still looking

for one additional board member. If you are

interested, please email Secretary Usha

Bhushan at [email protected]. We

would love your input and participation.

Finally, the Tamil Nadu Road Development

Company Ltd (TNRDC) has informed us that

the road expansion of ECR from Akkarai to

Mahabalipuram is set to start, so keep your

eye out for that!

Know Your Neighbours: Jayaram and Geeta Nambiar by N. R. Kumaraswamy

Mr. Jayaram Nambiar and Mrs. Geeta Nambiar have lived at 399, 11th

Avenue since October 2011. Before moving to Seashore Town, the

Nambiars were based in Delhi. Mr. Nambiar is a Mechanical Engineering

graduate with over 45 years of experience in design, manufacture, supply,

project planning and implementation of cement projects. Having been

affiliated with the cement plant supplying industry throughout his career,

he is one amongst the small group of cement technologists in the country

who has played a major role in the success of the cement industry in India.

He has collaborated with some of the world’s leading cement plant

technology suppliers and facilitated the transfer and development of the

latest technology and indigenization of the manufacture of cement

plant equipment.

He started his career with ACC Ltd in 1965 in the Project Planning and Engineering Division, followed by seven years with Holtec

Consultants, a leading cement consultancy firm in India. From 1982, he headed the newly formed Cement Project Division of

Cimmco Birla Ltd which was responsible for the supply of many technologically advanced cement plants in the country. In 1999, he

was appointed the CEO of Gebr.Pfeiffer (India) P Ltd, a company he helped establish. Despite his retirement in 2009, he continues

to serve as Director on the Board of Pfeiffer (India).

Mrs. Geeta Nambiar is a post graduate in Sociology and a post graduate diploma holder in Business Management and in Personnel

Management. Her career spans over three decades with the United Nations. Her work revolved around Procurement & Contracts

Management and Human Resources Management for the United Nations Children’s Fund. While mainly based in the UNICEF India

Country Office in Delhi, her international assignments included postings to Macedonia (the former Republic of Yugoslavia),

Afghanistan and, prior to her retirement, three years in the Maldives to support the post tsunami operations of UNICEF.

Jayaram and Geeta Nambiar have two daughters. Their elder daughter, Anuradha, was trained as an art historian and

anthropologist by the University of Baroda and later by PRASADA, UK. She is the founder and Director of The Research

Collective, a multi disciplinary consultancy firm that specializes in documentation, conservation and promotion of South Asia’s

tangible and intangible cultural heritage. She is married and has recently relocated to Bangalore from Delhi.

Their second daughter, Aparna, is a graduate from the National Institute of Design, Ahmadabad. She is the founding partner of the

Delhi based design firm Studio Miscellanea. She specialises in designing immersive experiences for storytelling, education and arts

through the use of thematic spaces, appropriate technology and media. Her projects include museums, exhibitions, educational

events, games, interactive exhibits and thematic art installations.

The Nambiars enjoy the peaceful, quiet and unpolluted environment of Seashore Town, away from the bustling city life. They both

enjoy travelling and reading. Their interest in gardening is evident from the vegetables they grow in addition to their flowering

plants and a variety of trees.

Despite their busy schedule, the Nambiars have shown a keen interest in our Association. Since becoming members, they have

participated in both the Committee and events. Mrs. Geeta Nambiar was a Committee member from 2012-2013 and Mr. Jayaram

Nambiar also offered his invaluable advice and assistance during several meetings as a guest invitee.

We enjoy their presence in our township and wish them all the very best in the years to come.
