VOL 21 ISSUE 11, 31 JULY 2019 The Ultimate Superhero The year two’s recently started a Writer’s Workshop with a focus on superheroes. We have looked at superhero profiles and their backstories to help us understand how they became powerful. It’s fun to think about superheroes and superpowers. Flying, seeing through walls, or even being invisible. It would be so cool to be able to do something like that, something no one else could do. When Jesus was on earth, many people thought of him as a kind of superhero. Right after Jesus chose his disciples he visited the home of Simon and Andrew, two of his new disciples. As told in Mark 1:29-39, when he got there he discovered that Simon’s mother-in-law was very sick and stuck in bed. All Jesus had to do was touch her hand and she was instantly healed. Jesus was, is, and always will be the ONLY one who could ever have the power to save us, and we need him to save us so we can live with him forever. Jesus is the ultimate superhero with the ultimate super power. Jesus has an amazing backstory! I wonder what His profile would look like? The Ultimate SuperheroThe year two’s recently started a Writer’s Workshop with a focus on superheroes.

From the PrincipalCONNECTED SCHOOLS NEWSLast night we held our combined councils’ meeting at Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School. This was a great opportunity for the councils of Salisbury Lutheran Kindergarten, St Paul Lutheran School, Good Shepherd Lutheran School, Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School, and Endeavour College, to network continue to develop our shared vision for Connected Schools. I thank all of our St Paul council members for the time and passion that they commit to governing St Paul Lutheran School.

With our Connected Schools student worship coming in Week 4, we are blessed to have a network of schools for shared support, resourcing and professional development. (Please see more about Connected Schools worship from Miss Carly Bergen in this edition of Inspire).

2021 RECEPTION ENROLMENTS – URGENTFor all current families, please note that we need to know immediately if you have any children that are yet to be enrolled to start Reception in 2021. This will mean that your child is currently three years old. Please call the school office this week to speak with Natalie Broome so that we can accommodate them. If you have any friends or family members who are planning to enrol, please also ask them to contact us in the school office as soon as possible.

BARTON RESERVE DROP OFF AND PICK UPPlease note that your child should not leave the back gate (or any school exit) without an adult, unless we already know that they are walking home on their own. Even with the wet and cold weather, we do need adults to come across Barton Reserve to meet their children. It is very difficult to identify parents who are sitting in their cars across Barton Reserve. At no times should children be crossing Barton Street without the company of an adult. Thank you for helping us to keep your children safe.

BUILDING RENOVATIONS FOR PERFORMING ARTSPlease note from our last edition of Inspire that in the coming weeks, building works will be underway in the upper room (renovations for Performing Arts). During the morning and afternoon times, the screening will be altered so that the courtyard can become a thoroughfare for student drop-off and pick-up times. If you have any questions or need any help with directions in the coming weeks, please don’t hesitate to ask at the office.

From the Deputy PrincipalNAPLAN SCHOOL READINESS TEST Earlier this week some staff attended the NAPLAN Online Training at the Association of Independent Schools South Australia. Until recently, all schools were preparing to transition to an online test in 2020. This has now been pushed back until 2021 due to the issues with test connectivity across Australia for schools earlier this year. Later this term some students will undertake online trial tests to test the school’s I.T capabilities.

More information will be sent home to families in these classes early next week. Once these tests are completed, a decision will be made regarding the transition to online testing for St Paul students in 2020 or 2021.

FRIDAY ELECTIVE AFTERNOONS This week students will participate in another ‘Elective Afternoon’. Our Year 5 and 6 students will be preparing for Wakakirri, so we will have a Reception to Year 4 Elective Afternoon. Some of the choices include: Gaelic Football, reading in the park, St Paul Ninja Warrior and Design your own superhero. Once again, we are so thankful for the parents and friends who have offered to run an activity. If this is something you’d like to do or find out further information, please email Carly [email protected]

SPORTS PHOTOSAll students will need to wear sports uniform, regardless of whether or not they play a team sport, on Tuesday 13 August (Week 4) to allow for Sports teams and SAPSASA photos to be taken.

CONNECTED SCHOOLS WORSHIPOn Friday 16 August, Year 4, 5 and 6 students and teachers will join with their peers from Good Shepherd Lutheran School and Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School to attend a combined worship service at Endeavour College along with their Year 8 and 9 students. Year 4 students have the opportunity to participate in some workshops at Endeavour College following a shared morning tea. In addition, we invite all parents, caregivers and family members from the St Paul community to join us in this worship and community-building opportunity. Morning tea will be served following the service, held in the Endeavour Centre, Endeavour College, 85 Mawson Lakes Blvd, Mawson Lakes at 10:00am on Friday 16 August. For more information about Connected Schools, please visit www.connectedschools.com.au

General NewsCHILD CARE SUBSIDY BALANCING BASICSWhat is balancing?

After the end of each financial year, Centrelink balances your Child Care Subsidy. They do this to make sure you received the right amount of subsidy for the financial year.

How does balancing work?

Centrelink looks at your adjusted taxable income for the 2018-19 financial year and compares it to the estimate you gave them.

They then work out if you were paid too little subsidy, the right amount or too much. They’ll send you a letter to let you know the outcome. Your letter will tell you whether:

• you’ll get a top up of subsidy because you were paid too little,

• you’ll need to pay Centrelink back because you were overpaid, or

• you were paid the right amount, and don’t need to do anything.

What you need to do?

To balance your Child Care Subsidy payments, Centrelink needs to confirm your family income for the 2018-19 financial year.

Page 4: Upcoming Events The Ultimate Superhero · bed. All Jesus had to do was touch her hand and she was instantly healed. Jesus was, is, and always will be the ONLY one who could ever have

Once you and your partner have lodged your tax return, the Australian Tax Office will send Centrelink your income information. There’s nothing else you need to do and there’s no need to call.If one or both of you don’t need to lodge a tax return, you need to tell Centrelink you’re not required to lodge.

Your subsidy can’t be balanced until you do this.

You can tell Centrelink you don’t need to lodge a tax return in either your:

• Centrelink online account through myGov, or

• Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.

Select Advise non-lodgement and follow the prompts.

Where to go for more information?

To see when your Child Care Subsidy has been balanced you don’t need to call Centrelink. Instead you can:

• keep an eye on your myGov Inbox, as this is where Centrelink will send your outcome letter if you get letters electronically.

• view the status of Child Care Subsidy balancing in your Centrelink online account through myGov or Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.

To find out more about balancing your Child Care Subsidy (or your other family payments) go to humanservices.gov.au/balancing.

LIBRARY NEWS - BOOK WEEK 2019

BOOK SWAPOn Wednesday 28th August as part of our Book Week celebrations the library will host a Book Swap. The Book Swap is a great opportunity for students to exchange a book they no longer need for something new. To participate in the Book Swap students need to bring along a book to swap. Students can bring their book to swap to the Library and they will be given a ticket that allows them into the Book Swap on the day.

Only students with a ticket will be allowed to get a ‘new’ book at the Book Swap. Students are welcome to start bringing in their books to swap.
