The little girl in the big hands at the corner of Farmington and Asylum Avenues is Alice Cogswell, the first student and inspiration for the school which is now American School for the Deaf. The hands symbolize the early supporters of the school, with each finger representing one of the 10 original donors. Starting this Sunday, November 4, the Downtown Library will beopen on Sundays from 1 - 5 pm. These Sunday hours will continuethrough April. However, the library will be closed Sunday, November11, as well as Monday, November 12, for Veterans Day.

Travelers Team Makes a DifferenceTravelers Team Makes a Difference

Last Wednesday, 16 corporate leaders from theTravelers Hartford office helped implement HPL’s newRadio Frequency Identification (RFID) system. The newsystem will allow library patrons to check out and returnitems without assistance from library staff. In just a fewhours, the Travelers team tagged approximately 5,100items and programmed over 2,000 RFID tags. Greatjob, thanks!
