Holly Mosher, a documentary filmmaker and producer spoke today about her current film and whatan amazing man by the name of Muhammad Yunus is doing for women and people around theworld. We kicked off the meeting today with a table quiz, each table had a list of quotes from differentmovies. The first table to turn theirs in with all the right answers won a yet to be determined prize. It seems Rosemary's table won, followed by Gaulke's table and then Nick G's table.

it's always wonderful to know the good that our Rotary dollars are doing

A quick update on some of our fellow Rotarians who have not been to our meetings recently.

Mary Levin is home and recovering.

Ray Brien is home and well.

David Price is progressing well.

Jim Reidy is back and well. And today was his 61st wedding anniversary

-----------------------------------------------------------------

We had a few fines today:

Spyros got a little bit darker than usual, and it turns out he got his added color in Maui. His finestarted at $250 but he was allowed to give away his fellow Rotarians who might have been therewith him at a $50 deduction each. But he stayed strong and didn't give anyone away, so $250was the fine

Dick Lawrence recently celebrated his 50 year anniversary. He received a congratulatory fine of $100

Holly Mosher was our speaker for today, after getting involved in rotary in 1991 she became aRotary exchange student. Doing so took her to Brazil where she found her passion for storytelling and she made a documentary down there. This would begin her wonderful career as afilmmaker.

Her most recent film, and the center of her discussion today was Bonzai People. Bonzie People isa story about a Nobel Laureate named Mohammad Yunus.

She started her presentation at the podium and then made her way down to the projection screento show us a video of her latest documentary, and describe the man at the center of her story.

When she first discovered Mohammad Yunus it was just about 6 years ago, and he had just wonthe Nobel Peace Prize. She read that he was helping 6.5 million women, which equates to 1 outof every 1000 women on earth. He received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts throughmicrocredit to create economic and social development. But she found that microcredit was justone of the many companies and endeavors that Mohammad does. He currently has over 50companies, he's 73 years old, and he's still continuing forward. He has also received severalother national and international honors as well for the work that he's done and continues to do. His work in improving the communities around him and bettering the lives of everyone he possiblycan truly encompasses the 4 way test.

The videos that were shown were snippets of the film to give us an idea of this amazing man, while I can't describe the videos for this story directly I can supply the synopsis and a link to thesite where these and many move videos can be seen.

Here is a synopsis:

"As the founder of Grameen Bank, Yunus pioneered microcredit, the innovative banking programthat provides poor people – mainly women – with small loans they use to launch businesses andlift their families out of poverty. In the past thirty years, microcredit has spread to every continentand benefited over 100 million families. His Grameen Bank currently lends to one out of every1,000 people on earth and with a 98% rate of return – unheard of in the financial world. But Muhammad Yunus didn’t stop there. Now, Yunus goes beyond microcredit to pioneer the ideaof social business – a completely new way to use the creative vibrancy of business to tackle socialproblems from poverty and pollution to inadequate health care and lack of education. BonsaiPeople shows how Yunus – in partnership with some of the world’s most visionary businesses – is

launching purposely designed social ventures. While Muhammad Yunus didn’t invent the notion of doing business for social good – it is a conceptthat needed a leader, Yunus has become that person.Bonsai People is an emotionally compelling documentary film that explores the work and vision ofNobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus. His bank has created 26000 jobs at the bank and 8 million entrepreneurs who are borrowers. Andthis is just one of his businesses."

Truly fascinating and wonderful to know that there are people like this in the world who are doingso much good for so many people. I encourage everyone to learn more about this man, and thestories that Holly is telling. Her website is http://bonsaimovie.com/

Thank you Holly
