We are excited and honored to personally invite you for another great “Update for the Dental Practitioner” meeting in Brasstown Valley. As in previous years, this meeting is packed with great opportunities for you to learn, experience, network and share at a pleasant and most comfortable venue and atmosphere. We have put together a great program with a variety of contemporary interdisciplinary topics that will offer you and your colleagues a vantage point and practical steps to enhance your practice through team approach to dentistry where esthetics, restorative, periodontics and orthodontic collaboration comes together. We are fortunate to include an engaging group of speakers and offer you some hands-on experience that will step up your game. In addition, we left plenty of time for you and your family to enjoy one of Georgia’s stunning places in a very special time of the year. PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES

Update for the Dental PractitionerOctober 11-13, 2019

CONFERENCE SCHEDULEThis program will include a variety of contemporary interdisciplinary topics that will offer you and your colleagues a vantage point and practical steps to enhance your practice through a team approach to dentistry where esthetics, restorative, periodontics and orthodontic collaboration comes together. This course should enable participants to:• Discuss how to sequence and integrate an efficient restorative and surgical “team”

treatment planning• Identify required timelines for each team member and indication, for an efficient and

timely course of treatment. • Recognize unique general characteristics of each generation within your team• Customize motivating your team building/development and work ethics in your office

to improve team dynamics• Identify suspicious cancerous lesions of the oral & oropharyngeal sites• Identify pathogenic mechanisms for the HPV-positive cancers• Generate an appropriate differential diagnosis • Establish expectations within and between team members and patient• Determine potential risk factors for complications when providing immediate tooth

replacement• Decide when to immediately provisionalize the implant and when to provide a

protective temporary prosthesis• Identify different diagnostic factors associated with tissue deficiency in the esthetic

zone• Apply the right technique to different variations of tissue deficiency• Recognize the important role of wax up based guides for crown lengthening,

implants and orthodontic esthetic setup. • Discuss the clinical indications and methods of completing a wax-up and Orthodontic

setup

Jeril R. Cooper, III, DMD, Professor of General Dentistry at the Augusta University, earned his dental degree from MCG. He maintained a full-time general dentistry practice for 30 years before joining Augusta University, where he has an active faculty practice in addition to providing clinical supervision in the Department of General Dentistry and is a member of the Augusta University Esthetic team. He is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, Hinman Society, a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and received Augusta University’s 2008 Judson C. Hickey Award.

COURSE CO-DIRECTORS

Jacob K. Stern, DMD, M.Sc, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Currently, he is an Associate Professor, in Periodontics at the Dental College of Georgia (DCG), Augusta University (AU) where he served as program director for the advanced education in Periodontics. Dr. Stern completed his graduate training in Periodontics and a post graduate implant fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Stern has numerous publications in professional journals, and has contributed to important texts

in his field. He has lectured on periodontics and implant dentistry before dental societies in the United States and abroad. In addition to his faculty practice, Dr. Stern serves as a consultant for the Ronald Goldstein Esthetic Implant Center at AU and for the VA Medical Center, Augusta, Ga.

COURSE FACULTYRafikAbdelsayed,DDS,MS,Professor and Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, the Oral Health and Diagnostic Sciences and Oral Biology Department at the DCG-Augusta University. Dr. Abdelsayed is the Director of the Biopsy and Diagnostic Laboratory Services. He has a joint appointment with the Department of Anatomic and Surgical Pathology at the Augusta University-School of Medicine. He received his DDS and MS in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology from Indiana University School of Dentistry. He has lectured and published extensively on pathology-related topics. His biopsy and

clinical consultative services help many referring practitioners and pathologists from the general southeast regions. He serves on editorial boards of several journals, including head and neck pathology, dermatopathology, pediatric dentistry and other dental journals.

Darren R. Alvord, DMD, is a Periodontist in private practice in Savannah, Georgia. He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry, and completed his residency in Periodontics there in 2013. He maintains a comprehensive periodontal practice including dental implant surgery. He received the Kramer excellence Award in 2013 from the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation. He was awarded the JAG20 Emerging Leaders Award in 2017 from Augusta University. He is a board member of the Georgia Society of Periodontists, the Southeastern District Dental Association, and the

Augusta University Alumni Association, and believes strongly in giving back to his profession. Darron and his wife are dedicated volunteers within their Church, and their two young children are the joy of their lives.

Kim Capehart, DDS, MBA, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of General Dentistry at the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. Dr. Capehart has published and speaks locally, nationally, and internationally. Prior to joining the faculty at DCG, he was in a solo practice for 16 years treating the full scope of general dentistry with an emphasis in full mouth rehabilitation and esthetics.

The registration fee, less a $100 administrative charge, is refundable if notice of cancellation is received by Friday, September 27, 2019.

LOCATION & LODGINGBrasstown Valley ResortThe course will be held at the Brasstown Valley Resort, offering mountain elegance for all ages, moderate climate for heavenly outdoor escapes in the surrounding forests of the Blue Ridge Mountains and year-round championship golf. From the end of September until the first week of November, Brasstown Valley Resort and the North Georgia Mountains play host to visitors who come to view the awe-inspiring color palate that Mother Nature spreads upon the mountains. The coloring of the leaves begins at the summits of the mountains and flows down their sides to the valley floors.
