Our Focus: DOH PortablesOverview of Education Code Section 17292

Enacted in 2006

Authorized the Continued Use of Certain Relocatable Buildings Bearing a Commercial Coach Insignia of Approval from the Department of Housing and Community Development (DOH) for School Purposes Until September 30, 2015

Requires that the Governing Board of a School District Adopt a Resolution by October 30, 2015, Certifying that as of September 30, 2015, each Relocatable Building of this Type is no Longer Being Used as a School Building

Focus on Portables: Removal of DOH Portables Opportunity to Further Reduce Reliance on Portable Classrooms

In 2003, the District Had 515 DOH Portable Classrooms 350 Have Been Removed 107 More Will be Removed Prior to September 2015 Based on Enrollment Demands, the Remaining 58 DOH Classrooms are

Replacement of Buildings Triggers Code Compliance Upgrades and Infrastructure Upgrade Considerations Staff will Present Proposed Project Definitions Prior to September 30

To Properly Site the New Classrooms, Correct Site Inefficiencies, or Achieve Economies of Scale, Staff May Also Propose Additional Replacements in Conjunction with the DOH Replacements Removal/Replacement Will Occur Over the Next Several Years
