Updated Strategic Plan - Overview● Why is the Strategic Plan important?
○ Mechanism for the input of the EWSD community on educational priorities to be translated into action
○ Guides the allocation of finite resources/budget based on input of the community and within context of fiscal constraints (ie, tax cap). For example, which areas get increased resourcing, which are maintained, and which get less.
○ Coherent longer-term plan reflecting input of “the many” and minimizes ad-hoc input of “the few”
○ Provides an accountability mechanism for the administration and board
● Why is it being updated?
○ The current Strategic Plan covers 2012/13 through 2017/18 school years
○ The updated 5 year plan will cover 2018/19 through 2022/23 school years
● How is it being updated?
○ Based on broad input from EWSD community (parents, staff, community members, students)
○ Survey is the cornerstone of process to gather this input
Role of the Strategic Planning Committee
MissionTo gather input on priorities from a broad representation of EWSD community in an objective way
Key responsibilities
○ Identify key Dimensions to be included in survey○ Develop Survey Tool, Methodology, and Communication Plan○ Spread the word to drive a high response rate○ Coordinate with administration on the assessment of results
and presentation to Board for adoption

2. Provide commentsa. Note - 214 surveys contained comments
Caveats clearly indicated on the survey:● That survey results wouldn’t impact core curriculum● That athletics was not included, since this is covered under separate plan
How the survey was administered● On-line and hard copy● EWSD community notified multiple ways: by the district (email, hard copy) and proactive efforts
of PTO, faculty/staff, and committee members

developed● A few High Priority Dimensions which all respondent groups reinforced in
comments○ Security○ Real-World Learning○ Social & Emotional
● Comments reflect the need for the Strategic Plan to balance the desires of those who are worried about “too much” (e.g., too many APs) and those who would like to see “even more” (e.g., acceleration, advanced classes, competitions)
