Press&Dakotan DAILY DOSE NEW YORK (AP) — Derek Jeter could be ready to resume his chase for 3,000 hits by early next week. The injured New York Yankees shortstop went through his latest round of rehab work Wednesday in Tampa, Fla., and general manager Brian Cashman said if all goes well over the next couple of days Jeter might begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Trenton. He is likely to play at least two rehab games, and Cashman acknowledged it’s possible Jeter could re- join the team for a three-game series in Cleveland starting Monday. Sidelined by a strained right calf, Jeter is six hits shy of 3,000. A return next week could put him on track to reach the milestone at Yankee Stadium during a four-game series against Tampa Bay from July 7-10. Board officials also made it clear that no state money will be used for the projects, according to regents executive director and CEO Jack Warner. “It is the board’s clear expec- tation that private donations and sponsorships will pay the full cost of constructing these facili- ties, if they are approved,” Warner said in Wednesday’s re- lease. “Additionally, we expect on- going operating costs to be sup- ported by athletic revenues, such as ticket sales and advertis- ing.” Sayler acknowledged the board’s request to have the proj- ects funded by only private money, saying that it is “under- standable.” “That’s the assumption we’ve been working with, and now we can officially go out and make it happen,” he added. Wednesday’s decision is the first step in what could be a 4-5 year process toward new and im- proved athletic facilities in Ver- million, Sayler said. USD’s 2015 athletic master plan also in- cludes an outdoor track and soc- cer field complex. “This is a positive thing for both schools,” he said. “We’ve got a long way to go, but at least the process is starting now. We look forward to the challenges.” Yankton Transmission Specialists Specialists (605) 665-1175 2409 East Highway 50 • Transmissions • Drive Lines • Transfer Cases • Differentials 2 Year / 24,000 Guarantee Grills & Accessories Grills & Accessories Grills & Accessories APPLIANCES 920 Broadway • 665-9461 10% Off • Weber • Ducan • Holland Portable, Built-in, Charcoal or Gas Mike Suing • 605-760-3505 Rod McNatt • 605-661-9594 B rightway E lectric LLC Yankton Let us “Brighten” your way! *Bucket Truck Available* Locally owned * Proudly Serving South Dakota and Nebraska. Vikings Working On Stadium Proposal MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings say they are still working on a proposal for a new stadium in Arden Hills. Vice president Lester Bagley says “a handful of issues” are still being discussed as they work to fine tune the pro- posal and get it ready for presentation to the Legislature. The Vikings don’t expect that to happen until state lead- ers resolve the budget stalemate. Bagley says lawmakers “have other issues and priorities and we respect those.” Bagley says the Vikings will be ready when called upon. He says they are still discussing the size and scope of the project, but did not want to get into specifics. Options for reducing the $1 billion price tag include changing plans for a retractable roof to make it a fixed roof. NDSU Football Coach Bohl Gets Five- Year Contract Extension FARGO, N.D. In 2010, the Bison made their first-ever ap- pearance in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision I (FCS) playoffs. Taylor said the base salary of the contract is $196,668 beginning July 1. The contract includes incentives for a Mis- souri Valley Football Conference Championship ($10,000), NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoff home ($5,000) and away ($2,500) games, a FCS runner-up finish ($10,000) and a FCS championship ($15,000). Fighting Sioux Nickname Meeting With NCAA Set BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A group of North Dakota officials plan to meet with the NCAA next month to see if the University of North Dakota can avoid being penalized for keeping its Fighting Sioux nickname. North Dakota University System Chancellor William Goetz (getz) says the meeting will be July 25th in Indianapolis, where the NCAA is based. The association says the Fighting Sioux nick- name is hostile to American Indians and says UND will be sanctioned if it keeps using it. However, there’s a state law that says UND must keep using the name and an American Indian head logo. North Dakota House Republican major- ity leader Al Carlson of Fargo was the law’s chief sponsor. He has pushed for the meeting to see if the NCAA can be talked into changing its mind.

NEW YORK (AP) — Derek Jeter could be ready to resume his chase for 3,000 hits by early next week. The injured New York Yankees shortstop went through his latest round of rehab work Wednesday in

Tampa, Fla., and general manager Brian Cashman said if all goes well over the next couple of days Jetermight begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Trenton.

He is likely to play at least two rehab games, and Cashman acknowledged it’s possible Jeter could re-join the team for a three-game series in Cleveland starting Monday.

Sidelined by a strained right calf, Jeter is six hits shy of 3,000. A return next week could put him on trackto reach the milestone at Yankee Stadium during a four-game series against Tampa Bay from July 7-10.

to seek final approval beforeconstruction can begin.

Board officials also made itclear that no state money will beused for the projects, accordingto regents executive director andCEO Jack Warner.

“It is the board’s clear expec-tation that private donations andsponsorships will pay the fullcost of constructing these facili-ties, if they are approved,”Warner said in Wednesday’s re-lease.

“Additionally, we expect on-going operating costs to be sup-ported by athletic revenues, such as ticket sales and advertis-ing.”

Sayler acknowledged theboard’s request to have the proj-ects funded by only privatemoney, saying that it is “under-standable.”

“That’s the assumption we’vebeen working with, and now wecan officially go out and make ithappen,” he added.

Wednesday’s decision is thefirst step in what could be a 4-5

year process toward new and im-proved athletic facilities in Ver-million, Sayler said. USD’s 2015athletic master plan also in-cludes an outdoor track and soc-cer field complex.

“This is a positive thing forboth schools,” he said. “We’vegot a long way to go, but at leastthe process is starting now. Welook forward to the challenges.”
