The students are: (From left to right, bottom row) Josh Young, Jimmy Keating. (From left to right) Rosie Villalobos, Teresa Pineda, Brittani Moore, Lizzy Haywood, Georgie Bender, Cynthia Villalobos, De’Andra Kirvin, Joe Maikranz, Troy Bullock, Logan Walker, Tre Robinson, Zach Selby, Jesse Floyd, Josh Selby, Kaitlyn Tarelli, and Nicole Gonzalez. Shasta College Upward Bound students were selected to participate in the Chico State College Tour. The students toured the culturally rich campus, had lunch in the Market Place, and explored the town of Chico. FYI “Did you know that students who participate in pre-college programs such as Upward Bound, have a greater chance in obtaining their baccalaureate degree?” Upward Bound helps young people prepare for higher education. Participants receive instruction in literature, composition, mathematics, and science on college campuses both during the summer and the academic school year. CAREER PlANNING TIME-lINEFreshmen• Visit the Career Center to discuss early career planning• Explore majors & careers that are interesting to you• Work on your GPA to keep it as high as possible• Learn to manage your time and projects• Participate in the Upward Bound Summer Program for extracurricular activities

Sophomores• Seek assistance from your Career Counselor if you are unsure what major to choose or what jobs correspond with your major• Update your resume• Take vocational tests• Join a club• Take a career assessment test

Juniors• Update your resume and have it reviewed in the Career Center• Practice interviewing skills• Conduct a practice interview with the Career Center• Register for college entrance exams• Research scholarships• Explore college campuses

Seniors• Attend career fairs• Gain at least three letters of recommendations from teachers and counselors• Complete the free financial aid application (FAFSA) beginning 1/1/09• Visit your school’s guidance counselor office. They can provide you with invaluable career advice, especially if you’re thinking about going straight into a career. And, they sometimes offer free career assessment tests. Ask them if they have a license code to any or all of the MyPlan.com career assessment tests
