HAPPY FOUNDERS DAY!!!
January 16, 1920
To the sisters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Upsilon Psi Zeta
Chapter, thank you for your expression of Service, Scholarship, Sisterly
Love, and Finer Womanhood displayed on January 16,2012, in the spirit
of Founder’s Day. Our World is experiencing difficult times. People in
our communities are needy. As the world continues to need, UPZ
continues to give which was evidence this Founder’s Day.
On January 16, 2012 our chapter members served Metro Detroit,
well. We participated in marches, served food in soup kitchens, prepared
food for the homeless and made bagged lunches to serve the hunger youth
who served the homeless in the streets. You mentored, coached, talked
with family members, friends and more importantly you talked to
strangers.
Through all of these many deeds mention above and other silent
deeds unknown UPZ truly honored the tradition of our five founders
Arizona Cleaver, Myrtle Tyler, Viola Tyler, Fannie Pettie, and Pearl Neal.
UPZ’s many expressions of love and service demonstrated throughout
Metro Detroit continues to uphold the legacy of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,
Inc. and its founders.

Z-HOPE
2012
The objectives of the sisterhood workshop was threefold. The first objective was to increase aware-
ness of self as it relates to sisterhood among females. The second objective was to increase awareness
among females about the many similarities than differences that exist among the sisterhood. The last objec-
tive was to increase awareness and appreciation for those many similarities among females and to celebrate
those differences.
Ms. Kenneatria L. Sutton who is a certified elementary science teacher presented the workshop. Ms.
Sutton attended Eastern Michigan University where she earned her undergraduate degree. She obtained a
MA in Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix. Ms. Sutton is a licensed and or-
dained Minister at the Romulus Community Church where she has served since 2005. Finally, Ms. Sutton is
a specialist on the subject matter of motivating women and uplifting the spirit of sisterhood.
Basileus April Groggins and Soror DeVette Brown who is a close friend and co-worker with Ms.
Sutton introduced the speaker to the UPZ Zeta family. Twenty-seven women UPZ, non-Zeta family mem-
bers and friends, and Auxiliary members of Upsilon Psi Zeta participated in the workshop. Soror Monica
Wallingford stated that “she spoke about how we as women need to embrace each other, motivate one an-
other and to improve our communication overall and to improve our sisterly bonds." Ms. Sutton expressed
the importance of communication by using analogies to scriptures, which supported why "sisterhood is im-
portant and how we are responsible for challenging each other to further enhance ourselves.” According to
Ms. Sutton, "this is what sisters do, encourage, support, challenge, lend an ear and a shoulder to build and
lift each other up so we can be most productive in our lives."

Stork’s Nest
Once again, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Upsilon Psi Zeta Chapter (Oak Park) successfully held its
non-traditional baby shower to benefit the Stork’s Nest Foundation. The event was held on February 18,
2012. This year’s drop-off sites were located at the Cross of Glory Lutheran in Detroit, MI, hosted by Soror
Ramona Calhoun and the Oakland Church of Christ in Southfield, MI, hosted by Soror Racquel Roney.
The Stork's Nest Non-Traditional Baby Shower has three major objectives:
• Provide prenatal education and incentives to low income pregnant women.
• Motivate women to get early, regular prenatal care through earned incentives.
• Educate women on self-care during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.
Seven Sorors and eight Archonettes volunteered at the two collection sites. Donated items included
diapers, bibs, undershirts, personal hygiene items, bottles, and a host of other items needed to help the preg-
nant mother remain healthy and to welcome the new born baby into the world. UPZ donated nearly 277
items to the Grace Ross Clinic in the city of Detroit. The Mid-Wife Department of Wayne State University
sponsors this resource clinic.

Are you ready for retirement? On March, 10, 2012, twelve ladies of Upsilon Psi Zeta and eight non-
