10. First Steps
Piloted began in September 2010.
Initially enrolled 100 Scouts, whose number quickly grew to about
800+ Scouts covering approximately 60 Districts (50% of
Uganda)

Key community level development issues, including information from
Ureporters on:
- health and well-being
- their communities
- their job opportunities
- human rights

13. How Ureport Works
Potential Ureporters send an SMS to 8500, and are walked through a
registration process that captures key info such as location, age,
etc
Weekly poll questions and useful information sent out to registered
Ureports
Ureporterssend in unsolicited information to the system at any
time

Information is automatically mapped and aggregated, as well as
reviewed by UNICEF and Project Partners, feedback sent to
Ureporters to spark further discussion

Direct channeling of reports to authorities and channels of
influence to quickly address actual service delivery challenges at
the local level.
This includes strengthening the Ureport networks themselves to
enhance use of this information organizationally.

100 sensitized Scouts registered 700 additional users
5,000 reports and poll responses already in the system
Almost 90% of polled youth feel that violence against women is a
problem in Uganda. Those that didnt tended to be from urban areas
and the north.

Already 2,000 additional users have joined
National Launch on May 23, 2011 across Uganda
Use growing Ureport network to support other initiatives, including
drug stock-out monitoring and teacher absenteeism
