LIFE
1. The wire coating
Betafence-fences are available with 3 different qualities of coating.
o Trigalv stands for the traditional heavy galvanisation with 100% zinc (250 to 300 g/m2,depending on the wire diameter). The life of these coatings is 3 times longer than those with ordinary zinc galvanisation (Zn).
o The Zincalu-coating increases the life of the wire even further. Here 5% aluminium is added to the zinc layer through a special process. This ensures at least a 50% longer life than heavy galvanisation. The coating thickness is between 100 to 180 g/m2, depending on the wire diameter.
o Zincalu Super also consists of 95% zinc and 5% aluminium, but the coating is much thicker (200 to 300 g/m2, depending on the wire diameter). As a result the life of the wire is no less than 3 times longer than Trigalv and consequently no less than 9 times higher than ordinary Zn-coating.

1 | The quality factors.

2. The knot used
The vertical wires form a spiral knot around the horizontal wires, which makes the fence more flexible. Spiral knots are used in the Ursus and Ursus AS-fencing.
Ring knots fix the vertical wires to the horizontal wires and only allow limited movement, which automatically makes the fence more rigid and stronger. Ring knots are used in the
heavier fences like Ursus Heavy and Ursus Heavy AS.
3. The type of wire (quality & diameter)
The tensile strength of the wire is the maximum tension a wire can resist, subject to a pulling (horizontal) force, without breaking. This strength is expressed in Newton per mm2 (N/mm2). In other words it is independent of the wire diameter.
The quality of the steel itself defines the tensile strength of the wire. Steel wires with a lower carbon content (like the ordinary Ursus) have a lower tensile strength than steel with a higher carbon content (like Ursus AS).A higher tensile strength facilitates the installation (a greater distance is possible between the posts) and also offers greater solidity. The higher the tensile strength, the lower the stretching, the less the wire can be distorted.
The tensile strength of a wire is expressed in Newton and is the maximum (vertical) force a wire can bear without breaking. The tensile strength is defined by the tensile strength and diameter of the wire. The greater the wire diameter, the stronger the wire. That is simply logical.
Naturally the number of wires also defines the strength of the wiremesh. The more horizontal wires and the smaller the distance between the vertical wires, the stronger the mesh will be.

Ursus® Zincalu
Ursus® has been the top quality fencing for sheep meadows for years. The types with smaller mesh on the bottom are furthermore also highly suited to chickens, ducks, geese and other small livestock.
The spiral knot offers excellent flexibility for easy installation on all terrains.
Thanks to the specially developed Zincalu®-coating the life of the wire is extended by at least 50%, in comparison to the heavy galvanised coating.

This range is specially designed to give maximum resistance combined with a light weight. Betafence has developed three types of fencing for forestry and motorways: Ursus® AS Light, Ursus® AS Medium and Ursus® AS Super. Thanks to the special product characteristics of Ursus® AS the posts can be placed at a distance of 8 to 10m, which means the installation of these fences can be realised 3 x faster than with other systems!
Ursus® AS LightThe high carbon content of the steel wire ensures maximum resistance and a light weight. Ideal for small wild game, hares and rabbits. Also especially suited for fencing off large areas, like forests, heath, meadows, etc. Hares and rabbits cannot get through the small mesh in these fences. The Trigalv-coating provides good protection.

Ursus® AS MediumThe unique ratio between the diameters of the steel wires and the number of wires makes this mesh an efficient fence of normal weight. The thicker wires with Trigalv-coating, provides increased solidity. Also perfect for use on undulating ground. Ideal for game keeping and forestry. Ursus® AS Medium is a fixed mesh that is highly suited to keep various types of game, like deer, wolves, etc. within the domain.

Ursus® AS SuperBecause of the heavier wires, combined with a Trigalv-coating, this mesh is exceptionally resistant and fixed in form – even at great heights – and is consequently supremely suited for fencing off areas with high game concentrations, where heavy, natural circumstances challenge the mesh each day.

The Ursus®-fence is very easy to install and the broad range allows many applications. Wires with a thick diameter and Zincalu® Super-coating guarantee solidity and a very long life (3 x longer than the heavy galvanised finish).

Ursus® Heavy ASThis fencing system, with Zincalu®Super-coating, has the same assets as the Ursus® Heavy, but the combination of wires with a higher tensile strength and lower wire diameters ensure extra solidity. Partly as a result of this higher tensile strength the distance between the posts can be increased which makes faster and cheaper installation possible.The roll weight is also significantly lighter as a result of the smaller wire diameters.

The Hexanet®-woven mesh in a typical hexagonal shape retains its shape extremely well due to its triple

3. Rapido®
A fence is only as strong as its weakest link. And that is almost always the place where the wire is knotted or bent. Small tears are caused when knotting a wire, both in the coating and in the material itself. As a result each knot reduces the strength of the wire. Research has shown that a double knot decreases the wire strength to only
30% of the original wire strength!
The Rapido®-wire connector no longer bends the wire so no tears are caused and the maximum strength of the wire is preserved.
Rapido® is available in two types and is suited to a very broad range of steel wires, ® can be used to join
and tension all types of Ursus and barbed wire.
