Carta de Presidencia

El crecimiento de la actividad internacional nos proporciona la confianza necesaria para afrontar con garantías de éxito el ciclo económico que atraviesan España y Europa. Durante el año 2011 he-mos iniciado actividad en nuevos mercados como Colombia, Panamá, Turquía y Lituania, y nuestra facturación en el exterior ha crecido un 168% respecto al año anterior.

Gracias a nuestra especialización ferroviaria y tecnológica hemos dado un paso firme para cumplir con los objetivos estratégicos de COMSA EMTE. Nuestra voluntad pasa ahora por consolidarnos en los países donde estamos presentes y evolucionar el modelo de negocio como hemos realiza-do en nuestro país.

Las líneas de negocio no tradicionales están alcanzando un grado de madurez que les otorga un peso específico dentro del conjunto del grupo. Así, la facturación de los negocios de transporte y logística, medio ambiente o energías renovables ha obtenido este último ejercicio un incremento medio de un 40%.

El crecimiento exterior y la diversificación deben ir acompañados inseparablemente de grandes esfuerzos en el mercado nacional. El cambio estructural que hemos sufrido en nuestro país nos obliga a trabajar en la búsqueda de la máxima eficiencia y de la preservación de los márgenes y la rentabilidad.

La colaboración público-privada seguirá siendo una herramienta acertada para mantener las inversiones en infraestructuras. Sin embargo, el cambio de entorno financiero y su consecuente escasez de recursos nos obligan a establecer un criterio muy selectivo en nuestras inversiones y a estudiar la posibilidad de desinversión en aquellos proyectos no estratégicos para el grupo.

Estamos convencidos de que una actitud anticipativa y de vigilancia permanente nos permitirá reaccionar con agilidad y flexibilidad a los cambios que surjan en el entorno. Las circunstancias no son fáciles y el futuro económico está lleno de incertidumbres, pero las fortalezas de COMSA EMTE nos ayudarán a seguir en la buena línea que nos ha caracterizado siempre. Todo ello será posible gracias a la confianza de nuestros clientes y al compromiso que todos los trabajadores muestran en cada uno de los proyectos que desarrollamos en todo el mundo.

Letter from the Chairman’s Office

The growth of our international activity gives us confidence in guaranteeing success in dealing with the business cycle that Spain and Europe are experiencing. In 2011 we started business in new markets such as Colombia, Panama, Turkey and Lithuania, and turnover has increased by 168% from the previous year.

Thanks to our technological and railway expertise we have taken a firm step forward in mee-ting the strategic objectives of COMSA EMTE. Our determination now moves onto consoli-dation in the countries where we are present and to evolve the business model in the same way as we have done in our own country.

The non-traditional business lines are reaching a level of maturity that gives them a parti-cular weight within the whole group. Thus, this past year, the turnover of the businesses of transportation and logistics, environment or renewable energy have achieved an average increase of 40%.

This external growth and diversification must be accompanied, inseparably, by great efforts in the domestic market. The structural changes we have undergone in our country forces us to work in the pursuit of maximum efficiency and in the preservation of margins and profita-bility.

The public-private partnerships will continue to be a successful tool to maintain investment in infrastructures. However, the change in the financial environment, and the consequent lack of resources, force us to establish very selective criteria in our investments and to consi-der disinvesting in those projects that are not strategic to the group.

We are convinced that a proactive attitude and permanent vigilance will enable us to react swiftly and flexibly to changes that arise in the environment. The circumstances are not easy and the economic future is full of uncertainties, but the strengths of COMSA EMTE will help us to continue the good trajectory that has always characterized us. This will be possible, thanks to the confidence placed in us by our customers and the commitment that every worker shows in each of the projects that we develop worldwide.

• Habilitación de COMSA Rail Transport para el transporte de mercancías por ferrocarril en Fran-cia, mediante la obtención del Certificado de Seguridad.

• Más de 5.000 circulaciones anuales en 2011, el doble que en 2010.

• Más de 1.000 millones de toneladas kilómetro bru-tas remolcadas y más de 1,5 millones de kilómetros recorridos, consolidando tráficos de base inter-modal en distintos sectores (siderúrgico, papel y derivados, madera, graneles, cajas móviles, etc.).

• Inicio del tráfico internacional hacia el norte de Europa, con un tren semanal de contenedores fri-goríficos hacia Francia y el Reino Unido.

• A través de las sociedades participadas Autometro y Cargometro se han transportado para Seat más de 90.000 vehículos (un 23% más que el año ante-rior) y más de 1.200 trenes de piezas en 2011 entre la factoría de Martorell y el Puerto de Barcelona/Zona Franca.

• Acuerdos con otros agentes logísticos para lanzar nuevos tráficos durante 2012, tanto nacionales como internacionales, hacia Portugal y el centro de Europa.

• Obtención de la licencia como Escuela de Forma-ción de maquinistas.

• Prestación de servicio de mantenimiento, opera-ción y alquiler de maquinaria para la práctica tota-lidad de empresas del Grupo que realizan trabajos de infraestructura ferroviaria en todo el mundo (España, Portugal, Polonia, Argentina, Chile, Ecua-dor, Brasil, Australia, etc.).

• Más de 1.400 intervenciones de mantenimiento en vehículos ferroviarios (locomotoras, vagones y vehículos de servicio) de terceros clientes en 2011, lo que significa un incremento del 52% respecto a 2010.

• Inauguración por parte de GMF de uno de los dos únicos lavaderos de cisternas ferroviarias de trans-porte de materias peligrosas homologados en la península ibérica.

• Modificación del ancho de tres máquinas de 1000 a 1067 para trabajar en Ecuador, desarrollando tan-to los trabajos de ingeniería como la adaptación mecánica.

• Contratos con la práctica totalidad de empresas ferroviarias, operadores y propietarios de vagones de España.

• Cierre de la financiación de la planta termosolar de Les Borges Blanques (Lleida), la primera del mundo en combinar energía termosolar y bioma-sa.

• Acuerdo marco de inversión con el Banco Saba-dell y el Banco Espírito Santo. El primer proyecto de esta colaboración se materializa con el parque eólico Sierra Sesnández (Zamora), de 20 MW, cuya construcción finalizará en 2012.

• Consolidación, en su primer año, de IDNEO como ingeniería de servicios y centro de I+D+i de COMSA EMTE, centrada en los sectores Salud, Transporte (Ferroviario y Automoción), Industrial, Consumo y Renovables. Desarrollo en 2011 de proyectos como “Start Up Warning System” destinado a la prevención de accidentes en obras de vías y “Assets Locator System” para el seguimiento y localización de activos y mercancías. Paralelamente ha potenciado su laboratorio de Compliance, ampliando el ámbito de certificaciones como entidad ENAC.

• Consolidation, of IDNEO, in its first year, engineering services and R & D & I centre for COMSA EMTE. It is focused on Health, Transportation (Railway and Automotive), Industrial, Consumer and Renewable energy.
