Hydrologists work with one of Earth’s essential substances: water! Without it, life would be impossible. But sometimes water quality suffers as a result of natural events, pollution, or other causes. Or a river or stream might cause issues, such as erosion or flooding. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) hydrologists study the effects of human activities on water bodies and monitor water quality for the presence of pollutants and invasive species. ey help decide how water may be used in certain areas and monitor the health of aquatic plants and animals.
