Malone [57] ABSTRACT This invention is directed to a method to improve ma- trix acidizing of a carbonate containing formation by t ak in g a dv an ta ge o f w or mh ol es w hi ch a re c re at ed d ur - ing acidizing. The wormholes are closed with a solidifi- able gel which protects them from entry of additional a ci d. T he s ol id if ia bl e g el is a ll ow ed sufficient time to form a solid. After a solid gel is formed, additional acid is directed into the formation where it moves past the wormholes containing the solid gel. Thereafter , an addi- tional volume of solidifiabl gel is directed into the formation where it protects any subsequently formed wormholes and diverts the acid further into the forma- tion.
