You need to put gold paint on the ornament on the top of a flag pole.  The flagpole casts a shadow that is 30 feet long.  The sun has an angle of elevation that is 50o.  How tall is the flagpole?

What trig function should you use?

Pull

Pull First you must determine

which side length you want to find!

We want to find the length of the opposite side.

An airplane pilot sees two towns ahead in the diagram on the next page.  The angle of depression of the closer town  is 25o and the angle of depression of the farther town is 15 o.  His altitude is 5 miles.  What is the distance between the towns?
