Have you set up your online giving page?

Online fundraising is one of the easiest ways to raise sponsorship. We want you to have a great time fundraising for Guide Dogs, so here are some top tips to get you started.

1. Setting up your online giving page Online fundraising is quick, easy and secure. Visit justgiving.com/guidedogs to set up your page.

2. Personalise your page Fundraisers who add a picture tend to raise 14% more! What better excuse for a selfie? Don’t forget to add updates and tell people your reasons for taking on this challenge for Guide Dogs.

3. Spread the word to get those donations coming in Sharing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social networks is a great way to encourage sponsorship. Don’t be afraid, people want to hear about the good things you are doing.

4. Add a target Pages with a target raise 46% more than those without. Aim high and tell the world so you can smash that target.

5. Keep going! 20% of donations come in after an event has ended, so make sure you follow up the event with an update about how you did.

Need inspiration?

No matter where you are on your fundraising journey, we’re here to help! Our team are full of top tips and ideas for fundraising, please get in touch to pick our brains.

Everything was going ok for Steve. Right up to sudden blindness.

The effect on Steve’s life after being matched with guide dog May was pretty much instant.

His family soon got used to his new-found independence. Steve’s dad is fond of saying how nothing stops his son now! And it’s true. Whether it’s tandem riding or driving a sports car around a race track, Steve is living life with the handbrake off. But it’s Glynn Bowles who sums it up best: ‘Guide Dogs has given me my big brother back!’

FAQ’s

Can children take part in Use

Your Senses 5K?

Yes of course, this event is for the whole family. To ensure everyone is safe, U16’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) and young adults (16-17) must have parent/guardian consent to take part.

Can I take part with my dog?

Due to the nature of the event and Sense Station activities, dogs (including guide dogs) are not able to participate in any part of the event route. Dogs are more than welcome to join us in the Event Hub though.

Can I take part with a baby

stroller/buggy?

Yes, but please be aware of the Sense Stations as you may wish to bypass an activity (i.e. no foam in your pushchair).

Does my sighted guide need

to pay to take part?

No, sighted guides can take part in the event for free to provide assistance for visually

impaired participants. Please let us know at [email protected] if you are running with a guide.

Do I need to do all the

Sense Stations?

We hope you are excited to take part in all our Sense Stations, however if you would like to bypass an activity or do not feel comfortable taking part you can of course skip this.

Tell me more about the

coloured powder paint

The colour is non-flammable, non-toxic and made using natural ingredients. Some participants choose to wear a poncho or glasses when going through this Sense Station for extra protection, our volunteers will also keep the colour low. The colour should not stain, but we recommend that you wash any items asap to avoid disappointment.

Is the foam safe?

The foam used does not present any health-related issues, you don’t need to wear eye or skin protection (unless you want to). If foam contacts your eyes, simply rinse and wash with water. Whilst this will not cause harm to the skin, if irritation does occur please see your doctor.

I have allergies, can I still

take part in the Taste

Sense Station?

Of course! Specific dietary packs will be available at the Taste Sense Station. Please email [email protected] in advance of the event so we ensure we cater accordingly.

Do I need to be Mo Farah

to do this?

No! This event is a fun run, which is not formally timed. There are plenty of other 5k’s out there for competitive running. Use Your Senses 5K is all about coming together for a sensational day, changing lives for those with sight loss.

I am struggling to hit my

fundraising target.

What do I do?

Don’t worry! Our team are full of tips and would be happy to support you. Give us a call on 0345 143 0200 or email on [email protected]. We would love to chat with you!
